As I was born in the first half of the last century... metric doesn't work in my head...my tapes have imperial on them...I never was good at maths...as my dyslexia doesn't compute..took the teachers a looong time to figure me out..T1 Terry wrote: ↑Sat Aug 09, 2025 2:55 pm Fortunately, on the 14th February 1966, I was only 10 yrs old, so we were never burdened with the crazy pounds, shillings and pence knowledge required to do a money equation, it was all base 10 and that was easy to work with .....
Unfortunately, by 1974 I was turning 19 yrs old, because some things are in millimetres, yet tape measures are in centimetres and rarely denote anything in metres, 3060mm is easily confused with 3600mm and vice-versa when reading a tape measure, it need one that also has the feet and inches on it so I can do the quick reference when transferring a measurement to the material to be cut ...... buying cheap tape measures that have two 8 cms on one and not on the other, caused all sorts of dramas when building big bus![]()

The fact my brain damage from the accident only allows me to hold 4 things at a time in short term memory, I can't flip mirror image in my head, resulting in lots of things being built for a lefthand drive version of what every I'm working on at the timevery frustrating ...... might be part of why the metric measurements using a tape measure catch me out so often .... that and the need to measure from the 100mm mark to make a mm accurate measurement

Re: Thought for Today
I have a tooth which is slightly loose and annoying me.
Rather than fork out lots of $$$ with no Medicare refund, I decided to go with the Home Dental Therapy my parents used when I was a youngster losing my first set of teeth: tie a string around the tooth, tie the other end to a doorknob then slam the door.
Didn’t work.
Tooth is still annoying me, and now I have to put the sliding door back on its tracks.

Friend complained that new cars are getting too gadgety these day .... she was set off on this latest rant when a video of a car running someone over came up on her centre screen as she was reversing out of a parking spot at Woolies .......

Approaching the day for the retired
Do not seize the day, this may startle it and cause it to become aggressive, not how anyone retired wants find the day going, getting aggressive and trying to get back at you.
Instead, approach the day without making eye contact .... and not too early, even the day likes to have a calm morning if possible. Once you must open your eyes, remain calm, approach the day gently, even if you have to roll over and have another go at approaching if you find it is a tad startled and trying to stare you down .....
Be gently with the day, patting it to reassure it you mean it no harm and let it gently accept you into it's fond embrace ...
If, at any stage, you feel the day starting to turn on you, back off and return to bed. The day has had a lot more experience at p*ssing people off, best let it find someone else for a change

Re: Thought for Today
A friend of mine named Frank was always a practical joker.
He died a year ago.
His will stated that, as his last joke, after cremation his ashes were to be placed in his favourite beer stein.
His widow complied, but was puzzled.
His ashes still sit on her mantlepiece.
The punchline of his final joke only dawned on me last week.
I must tell her, to put her out of her misery.
I think she’ll find it funny.
He’s now Frank-in-Stein.
