I have had good service from Dometic, too... 8-)

... after I detailed their responsibilities under Australian Consumer Law, and demanded a fix within 21 days – or I'd take it to Consumer Affairs Victoria (the state where the transaction took place), and told the CEO that ACCC was monitoring their responses to warranty claims as a result of my letter to them.
:?   ;)

I received personal, on-site attention from their National Service Manager and National Technical Manager!
:D

Hi,
It could be claimed as ,"not being fit for service "' under latest regulations
Especially if it could be shown the actual use hours was low

I think there is an on going statute warranty despite it being out of the manufacturers warranty. From memory its something like a reasonable period of time, no idea what the time period is but it might be worth contacting Consumer Affairs if there is a problem.

The ACCC booklet on Consumer Law for Manufacturers quotes a "reasonable service life" which is generally dependent on what you paid.
The example they give is a $20 toaster, which would not be expected to give the same service life as a $100 toaster.
There is no hard-and-fast ruling on the definition. ACCC suggests the particulars of each case would be decided in court.

When you pay nearly $3000 for the installation of a diesel heater, you expect it to last past the 2 year warranty period! We calculated about 50 hours' use.
The users manual recommends replacing the main burner unit after 10 years service. So Eberspacher expect it to last more than 2 years!
And I assume that would be under European conditions, where it would be used far more frequently.
I suspect the people at Dometic went back & checked the law - and the potential for bad-mouthing on the Grey Nomad bush telegraph - before coming back with a warranty replacement for the PCB on our heater... and a full check of the installation (Roberts Winnebago is not one of their authorised installers. Don't know how they happened to have an Eberspacher on hand... but they'd had it since Oct '09 according to coded info on the warranty card. Installed Jan '11) ;)
