My inverter split system runs at 60Ah max .... 60x13.2=792

So flat out it pulls around 960w, then tapers back to around the 336w or less. Say 1,000w flat out, so 1500w of solar would power it at full speed when allowing for the 70% harvest efficiency, 1000w would have a short fall of 260w on start up but a surplus of around 360w once up and running and down to temp allowing the batteries to recharge so solar powered air con with lithium back up is well and truly possible. The 1500w solar system with 400Ah of lithium batteries would power the air con over night and as long as the sun was good the next day it should fully recharge by sun down even with the air con still running..... but that doesn't allow for any other appliances being powered from the batteries/solar or overcast or rainy weather.
Quite a big improvement on their old roof top rattler that's for sure.

Bit more update for those interested. Set the controls to a 26deg internal. After an hour had lowered battery capacity by6%. Still 80 remaining. Given it was only much the same temp outside, was never going to have to work hard. Allowing for solar, draw was around 20 to 66 amps. So, thought I would wait for it to warm up......gave up, fired it back up, and set temp for 16. The interior temp at tat point was 28. Max amp draw I saw was 131a . Seems to have settled back to around 90 amps currently. After 30 minutes the motorhome is down to24.2 and I cooked lunch via gas in that time. My feet are frozen so its time to flick it off I think. Would be interesting to know what sort of amps the domestic units pull when loaded to maximum load.
I think the new dometic unit wont tend to be running to max except in extreme conditions, and so will everyone else anyway.
By the time I faffed around in getting this up, it had dropped further to 23.3...

The domestic split system inverter runs at 60 ah max. We run our set temp at 27 degrees, find that a comfortable difference between outside temp and doesn't deter us going outside.

Please excuse my obvious ignorance with regard RV A/C's

I've done considerable research in regards to Installing and a/c to my rig and really have no room to fit the compressor under the bus.

I get the impression from people I know that roof mounted Rv stuff is useless, maybe until now.

Now this is the ignorant part, does this Dometic inverter have an external unit like the domestic splits.

Some how I get the impression the compressor is in the external room part???????

Yes, same external unit (compressor) as domestic unit. It is a domestic unit. Benefits are huge. 60Ah max providing heat or cooling. Silent, very, very quiet. The quoted clearances between front/back/sides of either unit can be seriously reduced.

No kappy, not the same as a typical split system. This is the new DOMETIC unit for RVs and caravans, an update on the old clunkers.
Martin is happy with his -as you see- and it fits in the old hole from the original roof top item? Easier than a split system installation, not quite as efficient but better than an Ibis style

Cool answer to my problems.

I was quoted $3500 for a cassette system not including fitting estimate was close to $5000 and had to find space for a huge compressor, plus side was super efficient.

At the prices I see here I will install 2 main area and bedroom , this unit seems better than what was available earlier.

I spent $850 buying and installing a domestic split system. It is quiet and efficient. The air movement even as a fan is superior to a roof mounted unit. Heats and cools my forty footer to SWMBOs satisfaction.
