Re: Terry & Margaret's trip to WA
We travelled from Kalgoorlie to a free camp some where between Balladonia and Caiguna Sunday, then to 200km out of Ceduna Monday night, now we are at Iron Knob and should be home tomorrow. The head winds returned slowing us down quite a bit so decide at around Kimba to look for an over night stop. the free camp at Kimba was full so we headed on to iron Knob only to find this one near full.

Re: Terry & Margaret's trip to WA
It's dark but I'd guestimate there are between 20 and 30 rigs here, over 50 at Kimba at a guess, they were even parked in the rest area beside the rail line on the highway. Rare to find a camp spot with no one there or no one turning up during the night. The days of caravaners being off the road by 3pm or so seems to have changed, still lots doing that but a lot still travelling after dark as well, even up to the early hrs in the morning they roll into a camp site. The days of the rolling road blocks seem to have disappeared on this stretch as well, getting passed by a car and dual axle caravan at better than 110k's certainly keeps you on your toes
the only time the van is in the lane is when it's crossing it, simply crazy stuff.
I'll be glad to be home after this trip, the Mazda has done herself proud, average around 5.5km/ltr but the cross winds with really big gusts and rain make it hard work at times.
Cleaned up a roo that must have been barrelled the night before but still in the middle of the lane, traffic coming the other way meant I could go wide around it. It was a big roo, made even bigger by laying in the sun most of the day. The trucks all seemed to clear it but the Mazda didn't. Hit the bull bar, then the cross member, then the diff and then the trailer axle leaving bits as it went. What a stink, it took a few hundred k to shake all the bits off and a few hundred more before we could wind the windows up again

Re: Terry & Margaret's trip to WA
We went over a top of a freshly killed roo in the Territory.
Made a massive racket as the bag of bones rolled under everything and popped out the back for the trailer.
Amazingly, the Terri was just high enough for very little damage to be done.

Now you know why we go for the gravel pits
If the rest areas have loos then they are attracted to them like moths to a flame
No thank you. caravans and such flash rigs have loos but oh no can't poo in the loo, Safe travels T,M,& C. xx

Re: Terry & Margaret's trip to WA
Well, we arrived home around 5pm thanks to the google maps app on Margaret's smart phone. What would have been around 3 to 4 hrs took 7 hrs plus, the wonders of smart phones strikes yet again
Had yesterday off to unpack and unwind a bit, we travels 7,200 plus km on this trip so I'm well over driving for a while.
