There have been hybrid trucks available here for a long time, I think Isuzu were one of the first, closely followed by Mitsubishi, but they were mostly set up for town use https://mhdsupplychain.com.au/2009/06/0 ... -trucks-3/ but the latest offering with the 2.2ltr diesel and a strong electric motor or the pure electric version look more likely to be accepted as a fleet option

Maybe not in Qld Terry. Our local council promotes itself as progressive and forward thinking. Had a lot of hybrid and electric cars. Even installed solar on most of the council building and had EV charging stations installed all over, but no hybrid trucks on the GC. Still yet to see one in Australia.

I was looking at using the early hybrid drive the Isuzu range used on the big bus project. It bolted in where the PTO fitted in the gearbox, had a modified adapter that used double roller brgs each end of the output shaft to handle the added load the electric motor applied, I was going to bolt it to the side of the Allison transmission to act as both a torque assist and regen brake .... but it never got that far unfortunately. At one stage it was going to get an e axle https://www.allisontransmission.com/ev- ... egen-power and if we had bought the Fuso in Murray Bridge, that would have been the upgrade for that. It was a grey import passenger bus and peaked out at 100km/h, yet not enough grunt to climb in slight hill in anything better than 3rd gear .... I have my doubts it would have been able to climb up our driveway ... but it was only $40,000 so there would have been $$ left for upgrades .... but it wasn't near as flash as this one was when we bought it .... needs a bit of panel work now after attacking trees and a rock retaining wall.
Yet another job on the list, modify the retaining wall beside the driveway to make room for the motorhome to actually turn in from the road and out from in front of the house

Thoroughly agree, T1!!

That would have been handy when we tried to get Girt up your driveway… unscathed. 🙄

Just noticed in Dotties photo
recharge.jpg
there are no signs of anything, including heat wave distortions, coming from the generator exhaust, suggesting it isn't even running ...... if it really was recharging the BYD, it would be running hard to produce the 2400w a standard power point could deliver and dialled back to 8 amps in the adapter seen partway along the cord, it would still be 1920w, close to the limit continuous for a Honda 2.0i .... can't determine if the little Honda is a 2.0i or a 1.0i .... but it certainly suggests it's a staged photo with zero connection to reality, much like the generator plugged into the Blade a few Taggerty's back ;)

That little genset looks like a 2.2 Honda. A 1.0 is a bit shorter. It may be staged, but the naysayers are gunna post more and more like that to try and discredit EV's.
It will be interesting to see if a future federal gubment will have different opinions and policies from our current one.

Just adding a bit of reality to the thousands of these staged photos that are already appearing, you would need to carry a Honda 3.0i in the boot to recharge one of those EVs or in fact most of the new generation EV.

Check this video out where a Tesla model 3, with the same chemistry battery we use for building RV battery packs, gets driven past the point it should stop, until it does stop, then he recharges it enough with a portable battery and inverter pack in the boot.
The one he uses has a poor performance inverter, so normal speed "granny charger" rates can't be achieved, but this video is from 2022, a lot has improved since then.

So, no need to carry a generator, an extended range battery can be put in the boot so if you run out of power, you can recharge enough to still drive to a charging station. Just like a jerry can in the boot ;) It was available 2 yrs ago, makes all these silly generator staged photos look a bit silly now eh .....
