Nightly Goodnight Everyone

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Not good news. Macular Degeneration and the eye exam 4 mths ago showed nothing, this time it looks like a camel hump in the graph. The fact it started to show any symptoms at all 7 days ago, it looks like very rapid on set. Gotta wait for an appointment with a specialist in Mt Barker to see what they say, but I guess I should prepare myself for being blind in one eye and poor vision in the other.
They did warn me when I was young that I'd go blind so it shouldn't be that much of a surprise eh

"tanks" here ---T1 old fella, wot they told you when you was young only applies if you use both hands !!

Having had the exam for MacDG only 4 weeks past and got the all clear, plus that you have only noticed the symptoms in the past 7 days it may be that you have an slight injury to your cornea from ?? welding, or grit that has scratched the surface of the eyeball and has developed into a corneal (ulcer) type of injury, and will be fixed up with a bit of medication, an eye pad for several days, and a large specialist bill.
Macular degeneration usually does not come on or present in such a short time.
I'm not trying to take over from your local GP or your Specialist; just offering words that may ease your immediate concerns.

Agree with Keith, macular degeneration is usually a slow process taking several years to actually end up blind.
Good luck with the outcome Terry.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, but it was an optometrist and those fancy cameras and computer graph things that made the diagnosis and all the eye sight tests and spot in the middle of the graph paper confirmed it. There is no pain at the moment, except for the pain in the butt of not being able to see properly.
The suggested problem was rapid onset wet type MD caused by .irregular or accident damaged blood cells in the back of the eye that can be barely seen in the photo and graph 4 mths ago, have now burst and are pumping the back of the eye full of blood.
The rate of deterioration is rapid, a week ago it was very similar to the squiggle I get in my vision that warns of a migraine coming on, a few days later it was a small blurry circle in the middle of the vision in my left eye when trying to read, it now covers 3/4 of the screen on the computer and I have to close my left eye to figure out what I just typed and fix the typos and spelling. It is like having foggy glasses and I've been cleaning my new glasses so much I think the lenses are only half as thick now.
No word from the specialist as far as their appointment date, our big off grid job starts tomorrow at Woodchester so no doubt they will ring as soon as I get started and in the middle of a bit I can't just leave.

Terry, you may remember that I had Brian drive me to Mt Barker [same optomologist] for an injection once. [not allowed to drive yourself]. I was at Monto Qld at a HWW gathering when I saw the grey spot. I made an appointment with my Opto in Port Macquarie [he did my careracts] I drove straight down to Port and he said it was "Wet Macular Degeneration" and I require an ongoing injection in the eye. Started off every month then went to six weeks then three months and finally six months.
This was over a three year period, I had an injection in Mudgee in September 2018, he said something was wrong in the scan. So off to Port Mac to my Opto four weeks later for a consultation, then back again in four weeks for an injection.
When the nurse did all the testing [which is done every visit] and then the injection BUT he said NO more injections as the bleeding had stopped but to get it checked again in four weeks [by this time I'm in Bowral] this Opto agreed but wanted it checked again in four weeks. By this time I was in Maitland and went to an optometrist [who had a scanner] and when he compared the last two scans agreed all was OK. While there is nothing to say it wont come back, I think the quick action I took originally saved the long term treatment. At no stage was it said that the injection would ever stop. It has now been fifteen months since my last injection, if I notice any change in my eye I will be back to an Opto ASAP.
So it is not the end, and mostly I don't notice it unless I close my good eye then I can see nothing is straight lines but the other compensates for it. Not perfect but it does not stop me from doing anything.
The bloke at Mt Barker is good. He does have rooms at Murray Bridge but only does the injections at Mt Barker.
All the Best
