This is probably a bit late for you Dot, but it may help others who are thinking of getting into a diesel heater. A friend moored in our bay today. Boarded their boat and was amazed at how warm it was inside, they had a Dickinson antarctica diesel heater and in their boat it was 25deg.
Uses about 5lt-24hrs on low, can also heat your water, runs on diesel, kero, used veggie oil and stove oil. I thought the smell was from his auxiliary engine, he has 100lt of used oil for it and tops up in just about everywhere they go ashore. So for any who are interested in this type of heater, here's a link.

Needs a 3 inch exhaust! and must be mounted where there is plenty of fresh air. CO comes to mind..... Crickey

My friends one is very clean-burning, they have Co2 and carbon monoxide alarms and because it gets so hot, they always have the hatch open. They have lots of hot water which they say has changed their lives and going to put one in their bus when they stop cruising this year.
WIth any heater, you need fresh air circulation and it looks really nice in their saloon. They used to have a small potbelly stove but collecting and storing wood was a problem for them, this fits nicely in the boat and they are using 3 inch exhaust pipe which is much cheaper than the standard stove pipe they say.
