Are you doubting my talent or something Jon ..... I can not only find things most have never thought of breaking, I can do it in completely original ways ;)

Why the "mix up with the switch position"? Aren't the steps meant to auto retract when the engine is started?

Or is this another furphy like the tsunami over the MG charger box?.....
managed to twist the steps rather severely when they didn't retract when the door was closed (mix up with the switch position) while trying to negotiate between the mud holes leaving the Hay free camp area .... I knew I'd cut it very close between two trees, would have made it if the steps had been in ....

Like, did you drive from Hey to home with the steps hanging out? and how did you get in and out of the winnie? More furhies me think? ;)

I didn't wire the thing, that was Winabagle's effort. There is a switch by the door to will leave the step out after you open the door so it doesn't keep trying to operate when you are parked up for a while, that seems to override everything .... because there is no such thing as a Winnebago wiring diagram, I'll try to figure out either why it didn't fold in when the engine started, or an alarm on the dash for when the step is out but the engine is running ..... and tie it into the levelling legs being down as well

The crazy thing is, you can't put it into any gear without the foot on the brake, you can't get the key out unless it's in park, and you can't put the levelling legs down unless the park brake is applied, yet simple basics like the step out or the levelling legs not fully retracted ..... nothing

The new MG charger came with on extra piece on the underside and revised buttons, seems I'm not the first to have water problems with them ...... I hang the cord over the charge door flap with this one, that keeps it off the ground completely .... I'll have to figure out a way to put it on top of the left hand rear wheel, so it's out of the rain as well .....

On our Winny, and most that have those Kwikee steps, there is a magnetic reed switch that automatically retracts the steps when the door is closed. The override switch only functions when the engine if off. Every Winnebago, Avida and Jayco I have ever looked at, are the same. There is a 24v relay as an interface from truck ignition to the 12v Kwikee system. Google Kwikee wiring .
They are all wired pretty much the same and Im fairly certain they are all 12 volt. Is the truck part of your Winny 12v or 24?

Oh, and don't think you have the monopoly on bending those pivots on the steps. I saw a fella bend his, when he rolled forward with the ignition off, at the Gympie Muster a while back.
Cheers

The Winnie is all 12v, I'll see if I can figure out why the steps didn't retract then ..... actually found on one of the check lists taped up all over the place "Make sure steps are retracted" so it has clearly happened before.

Not quite sure how I could fit a warning system that not all the levelling legs are fully retracted ....
Perhaps a microswitch that turns an LED on when the leg is even slightly deployed, powered by the ignition circuit, so the red lights would come on until all the legs are fully retracted ..... I could add one for the step I guess .... and one for the TV antenna and the sat dish ..... if we ever use them that is ......
