So where do we go from here , after much swearing to move battery so I could confirm that it was gel . And its 250amp my original one .
Do I stop doing the flood battery setting it has taken the volts to 15v but then I turn the charger and solar off .
At rest they now sit on 12.8 . But with a soc of 54% , to me that's still half full?
What next?
Bernie .
Well, the specs say they can handle a 15v equalising charge so just repeat it a few times and hold the 15v for an hr each time and see if the SOC improves or better still, the length of time the batteries will support the same load as you normally use before they drop to 12v under load, at least that way you will know if things are improving or not.

Thanks Terry , I have also have disconnected the batteries from each other and doing tests on them individually to see if one is dragging the other down.

Bernie,
My bulk voltage is set to 14.2

It's only 54% because the gauge is saying it is. That doesn't mean its right.

If the fuel gauge in the car says it's full but the car doesn't start. Is the tank full?

You could be right Jon...But we are not heavy power users the only thing running over night is the fridge and the inverter powering it .
And at most 2 house of telly all the lights are led .
So in theory my supposedly 480amp should not run out , I'm doing the at rest test on your battery at the moment after having it at 15v thru yesterday.
5am at the moment so when the suns up I will check how it faired overnight.

Bernie,

Using the current clamp, and:

1. the fridge running, how much current is the inverter using/drawing?
2. with the fridge off, how much current is the inverter using/drawing?

Morning Jon will get to that , now: one battery is at 12.9 at rest and soc of 53% and the other is at 12.6 and soc of 43% . Why?

Jon with the fridge running 7.5 amp and off 0.7 amp . also confirmed on the meter on my inverter .
Don't know if that on is what it does when temps are up or if that's what happens all the time , fridge has been off since last Saturday .
Your battery was the one doing that test , went down to 12.1 probably around two mins from start of test to turn off .
I will do the same test with my battery and with them both in parallel .

Was that 2 mins @ 7.5 amps before the battery dropped to 12.1v? Try the repeated 15v charge and then the load test a few times but it the test does reach 10hr before the voltage drops below 12v then the battery is well and truly dead. It sounds like the 53% SOC is even a bit optimistic  250Ah rated at C20 should be able to supply 12.5 amps continuous for 10hrs before it drops below 12v, the 120hr rate (C120) mentioned in the blurb from the battery manufacturer isn't an accepted discharge rate, even a C100 rate (capacity divided by 100hr expressed as amps) is nonsense when talking about energy storage for an RV, to handle the 7.5amp load at a C120 load rate the battery would need to be at least 900Ah and that would only be when it was new and recharged to 100% SOC every cycle.

Yes Terry 12.1 within 2 minutes . the other battery dropped to 12.4 in the same time frame . Also same amp readings .
Now the clamp meter has a flat battery so cant preform other tests with it . Its not mine so wont tamper with it but I know its a nine volt battery in....one of which I don't have .
My inverter has its own meter which was line ball with the clamp meter .

Still a fit out but not the bus this time. Between playing silly beggar's with batteries we have been doing some more house fit out , cuppla pics . The things I do for a peaceful existence . We meaning her, decided we needed more cupboards and tiling so almost finished, just the grouting to go .
Cupboards were done about a month ago ,the fridge used to sit in that corner . Where that picture is was once a window , still is if looking from the outside . She hates me taking photo's hehe .
