Nightly Goodnight Everyone

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

It might have been a Brisbane cockroach, smuggled into SA by covid carrying dissidents. I'll find one when I get home and post a pic.

I remember cockroaches as small dark brown things that scurried away the moment the lights were turned on. Then I moved to Newcastle and found that the cockroaches here are large light brown things that wander across the loungeroom floor whenever they like regardless of whether the lights are on or not. Maybe they were imported fron QLD.

Agree with George, when we lived at New Lambton in Newcastle, we couldn't believe the size & number of cockroaches, my mother in law was staying with us, she turned the bed down, white sheets to hop in & there was a huge cockroach, wow did she scream  hey that's why she probably never came back, we always wondered if it was the underground mines that caused the problem.

Brisbane cockroaches are quite big, maybe even 3" long without the feelers. I remember how shocked I was
when I realised that they survive by eating the fat that lines most of our sewerage systems. So, seeing cockies isn't such a bad thing. Except if they are in your bed

Back in the Illawarra, slowly but surely the lovely suburb of Lake Illawarra was turned into the houso's place it originally started from, so the cockies came back big time ..... The little buggers with the see through spots on a real hard shell were the worst because they wrecked electronic equipment. They would build a nest on the warm circuit boards and short them out, nothing seemed to clean it off and besides full board replacement, the unit was garbage. Microwaves were the worst, every so often you'd hear one get too close the big microwave generator coil and go zapp!!!! but they'd change speed in the oven section depending when the heat cycle was on and slow down when it was off .... nothing seemed to kill them other than the two pieces of wood method, and even then it took a good thump and square hit ... glad to be away from them, seems to be too dry and hot over here for them .....

I have noticed that homes that have septic tanks, ie not connected to the sewer, have very few or zero cockroaches.

George lift the lid of the septic tank and you might change your mind.

Maybe they don't have to leave the septic looking for food?

Robert, maybe they spend their life in the septic tank and not in the house via the piping.
