In my case most definitely but my circumstances are a bit unique I guess.
Firstly it is so good to be able to head off up or down the river & not need to use the noisy generator night after night.
Our marina must have the cheapest power available from the bollard than anywhere else I think?
billed at 29cents per KWH.
Anyone else got lower from their supplier?

Shirley, Julie would not be happy to be called a senior citizen at 54.

Shirley we have had solar for over 4 years now I bought a 3kw system cost $3000, it halved our power bill .
It is now payed for by the savings (around $14/16 hundred each year), we only get 10 cents per KW payback from the electricity mob
.
And we are seniors .....well almost when I'm in my late 80ties ....I might concede !!!

The boys that bought the farm have just negotiated a new deal, we thought we were doing well at 6 cents a Kw hour, they are now down to 5 !

Firstly George it was a general question certainly not aimed at your installation, I already knew that Julie was about 20yrs younger than you.
The neighbours opposite have just installed about 10 panel facing N/E & more on the back of their house, they are both in their early seventies that was what prompted my question, interesting answers, thanks.

Our Coaster has 5 solar panels we don't need to plug into power, don't need a generator & have never run out of power.

George,
Just caught up with this thread... again
Our solars (22 panels, 6kW) was installed on 5/12/18.
Meter changed 20/12/18.
Inspected & ticked off 22/12/18.
Plugged in & producing same day.
Our supplier/installer, Solargain, is 45km away in Wangaratta. Same-day service is the norm: call before 11am, there after lunch. Good phone support, too. They also did all the farting about with paperwork.
And when our billing company stuffed up, they checked our solar output the day I called, and emailed their readings to the company while at the house. Next bill was a $5 credit, compared with $500+ incorrect billing  previous month.
Regards & God bless,
Ray

Another interesting point regarding the financial payback. When we were back in Lake Illawarra, the bloke around the corner had solar installed on his house, then put it on the market. He figured the solar would add to the value. The people that bought it eventually not only wouldn't pay anything for the solar, they also added a clause that the solar had to be removed so they could go to fixed price electricity pricing rather than the timed pricing the solar forced them into paying. Apparently the feed in dropped for 40c kWh to 6c, yet the power in peak periods went for I think it was 20c back then to 49c. Because they both worked they were always going to be paying peak power costs yet getting next to nothing back.
Battery back up was not an option back then, all battery systems had to be off grid and could not be linked to the grid what so ever.
The catch with the battery back up back to grid subsidised systems in SA is the energy stored in the battery is not yours, the grid can grab it anything it wants and pay you the pitiful feed in tariff they are offering. This was direct from the mouth of one of SA Power's engineers who gave a talk at the last electric vehicle meeting. The answer was the result of an enquiry regarding using the electric vehicle battery as a house supply back up. Not only couldn't you apply for the rebate because the battery storage wouldn't be there 24/7 on their beck and call, but the power could not be fed back into the grid because it had to be factored into the grid supply in that area. SA have a lot of SWER lines so they have dramas with fluctuating supply, therefore they need to know just how much energy will be pumped into that line so they can compensate to keep both the voltage and frequency stable.

With Energy Australia we currently pay, after discount for on time payment, 22c peak and 9c off-peak. Their current feed-in tariff is 12.5c.

Another update: An Isolation Point has now been installed and I have thrown the ball back into the court of Energy Australia to fit the smart meter.

EDIT - I have just received a call from EA complaints and they are going to try to escalate the smart meter installation and call me with the result.

Maybe invite OldTrack & his son down for a visit to sunny Newcastle?
Bruce, I'm pretty sure that Oldtrack has never been a licenced electrician ever. And his son was only licenced to work in Qld anyway.
