Gosh, I thought that forum had folded long ago but I just logged on and it is going strong. My last post was in 2013.[emoji15]

Maybe I need to get into it again, although the camp oven didn’t get a workout on our recent 11,500km trip down to SA and back. Need to get my camp oven mojo back. John (Riverlander) mentioned that you were a gun with a camp oven when we stopped over with them.

Cheers

Yes, we are still going Leslie. I believe, and I say it for myself as well, that the invent of the small gas BBQ’s like Weber and Ziggy have made it too convenient to cook on the road without using a camp oven.

I know I to rarely use the camp oven when travelling these days and in fact with the drought find less and less places to actually have a fire.

Robert, was great catching up with you and Molly again for the weekend even if I did have the flu.

Yes, Derek, we found most places on our recent trip had fire restrictions so we didn’t think about the camp oven much. Towards the end of the trip it was so cold in the evenings that the Baby Q stayed in its duffel bag too. [emoji3525]

We use our camp oven on top of our rocket stove. One has a round base and sort of witches caldron shape and 3 legs on the bottom, makes it a tad tricky balancing on to of the rocket stove but it cooks the best. The flat bottom one I used for the stout sourdough at Taggerty (to win this yrs spoon) doesn't distribute the heat as well as the round based one.

Hi Lesley would not say I am a gun still learning and enjoying the company. Would like to try and get members here for a get together with SA camp oven members. May be when John has the house done it could be arranged.

Yes Derek great to catch up with you and Maggie, we both enjoyed the weekend.

Left on Monday and intended to do a five day trip home but some problems need us home as soon as possible so we ended up arriving home about 3:30pm this afternoon. Long tiring run and glad to be here with a glass of red and the feet up.

Cheers Robert
