Unkind, Bruce, unkind.

Shirley,
I like collecting cast iron ornaments, as well as boot lasts.
Cast iron was the 'plastic' of the mid-1800s~early 1900s.
I currently have three doorstops: a sheep, a kookaburra, and a 'cat on a hot tin roof'. I also have a flat-iron which does duty as a doorstop.
Keeping an eye out for other types of cast iron stuff, though. I keep dropping in to op shops & second-hand sellers, but I won't pay 'antique shop' prices. (T'other day we dropped in to a shop which had some Chinese-made cast iron 'antiques', complete with slight corrosion! )

Steve,
Girt's knee surgery was required after we dropped in to the Loxton mechanic about a problem with the engine stalling.
Discovery of the cracked wishbone was fortuitous. Mechanic also discovered that the fuel filter was full of water... hadn't been changed for about 18 months in his opinion :o (despite us supplying the filters to the 'servicing' mechanic, who has now lost a customer  ).
Replacing the fuel filter & draining the filter housing has not cured the original problem.
Girt is booked in for exploratory surgery with an auto electrician next week.

The mechanic in Loxton agreed with Bruce's theory. When I broke my leg in WA in 2016, we had to fly home, and put Girt on a flatcar behind the Indian Pacific from Perth to Adelaide. Bruce says they chain vehicles down over the lower suspension, and snig down the chains so tight that would be the probable cause.
Loxton bloque says to do that sort of damage in a pothole, the impact would have to be so great it also would have destroyed the tyre & rim... which we possibly would have noticed at the time. ;)
We've never hit a large pothole in Girt -- ever.
Regards & God bless,
Ray

Ray, we have 4 cast iron copper stands, 2 have round tops on them ( tables), one has a pot plant on it, the last one is still waiting, along with 2 cast iron sewing machine stands, on the list of chores to be done one day

This is the whole collection (so far ;) ).
The row in front –- with the exception of the flat iron -- is the "recent acquisitions" yet to be cleaned & painted for display.

They don't take up much of the lounge room floor. I can't see why there would be a problem!
