Guess he would of been able to tell you first hand knowledge history of the park Peter?

We had a similar project but a lot smaller at Buff Point on the lake where a fellow had purchased a couple of lake frontage blocks many years ago & commenced building " Rose Castle " he spent his lifetime on the project but unfortunately died before getting it anywhere near finished, it stood derelict for many years, was always an interest to folk driving past, I think it has been sold & demolished, I'll have to check it out, one time there was talk of it being completed & turned into a function centre.

Bernie I just Googled, Rose Castle, Buff Point, it was demolished in 2015, several stories on google to read, it was commenced in the forties.
We lived at Noraville before moving over to Lake Macquarie & over the years there were several stories about same in the local paper.

Ok Bernie, thought you were familiar with " Rose Castle "😀

Always a great location to return home to, we have everything here if you like living on the coast, great beaches, Tuggerah Lakes, Lake Macquarie, Munmorah NP, The Watagans NP., & more, close to Newcastle, the Hunter Valley & all it has to offer & if the need arises Sydney is a little over an hour away, Good climate, I'm not bias.

When I was a little kid.?? we used to go to Nambucca Heads I'm talking about 70 years ago Shirley..before there was a train bridge at Newcastle to get there..Also to Nelson's Bay when about 7/9 years old.. Then when my son was about 5/6 we used to go to Mungo Brush fishing with Carol's Dad , Carols brother live's on the central coast at San Remo . So not really unfamiliar with the general area .

Now that you mention San Remo, my parents bought a block of ground down by the lake there when the subdivision first opened.

Bruce's parents owned a holiday cottage at Toukley, he was only 4 when he first started visiting the area, travelling up to Wyong on the steam train, his Dad never owned a vehicle, he spent most of his school holidays in the area, he has great memories of it all being bush.

Bernie we have camped often at Mungo Brush, always pythons lurking :D the NPs have built roads thru to the beach & erected copper logs everywhere.
Seen plenty of kolas at Hawks Nest, seen one walking up the footpath when we were walking to the shop one year.

Family moved to Warners Bay when I was 5.
I attended WB Primary School.
The ‘shopping centre’ consisted of A corner shop/general store/post office agency!
Owner used to show open air movies on a Saturday night in the back yard... entry: 3d/single, 6d/family. :)
Someone eventually reported him for running an unlicensed cinema. :x
Probably the owner of the cinema in Speers Point.
Big news when (then) PMG built a brick PO just down the road. It even had a small manual switchboard in a back room!
Regards & God bless,
