Washed my Solar Panels

Post by homeless »

Got silly this morning and climbed up on the boat roof and washed the solar panels. Not an easy feat for me any more.
Just used a garden hose with a restricted pressure of 40 PSi as I have a reducer out the front to protect my boats water pipes , just hoses so not a pressure clean just a light spray really
The panels had a coating of dust after the winds etc lately, but I was surprised with the increase in charge rates.
I used the victron app while up on the roof. 46A before I started and 64A after the wash of about 5 minutes and the sun was still similar.
Wished I had taken some before and after photos but hindsight is great LOL.
Wonder what a scrub and polish would do but that is a bit beyond me at the moment and it is too bloody hot up there today with a 41+ day expected, but still more power for the air con even though I had enough before to run the aircon and charge the batteries.
I have seen nearly 100A in when first installed but noticed one panel has gone to god so will get it taken out and leave a path through to the row behind. When I add the next row i will look at leaving one out each on the first two rows so I can access from the bow off the walk way and walk right through to access all the panels for future cleans.
Anyone want to check their panels and see what they can get?

Brian some of the increase would also be due to the fact that spraying water on the panels cools them quickly too.

Water lasted a few seconds and it was gone. By the time I put the hose down and got my phone out they would have regained their temperature as it was about 40 degrees on the roof. So I don't think it would have been a lot

Cut and polish does wonders but I gave my cut and polish away so will to need to re invest. Bought a floor polisher so I dont have to bend the back. Just need to get the crook panel out so I can get to the back row as I am not allowed to climb HAHA. Will remove the crook one and move its mate across so I have 2 and 2 on the front row with a gap in the middle so blind and wobbly people can stick to the middle away from the edges.

At least if you fall off that roof you'll only hit the water ..... but knowing your style you'd do a back flip on the way down so you could crack ya skull on the railing or something  After seeing how far you had to run with ya chin just about on the carpet to slice it open last time, I wouldn't put anything past you
