Missing panel

Post by Kappy »

Day 4 and had a mishap.

Lost the right front bottom panel on my rig.

think I may have lost it atWinny Wombat Overnight stop, while checking ou at spot to stop the nignht.

Ended up staying at Cohen Rest Area 16k W of Penong.

Really not worth the nearly 200k round trip to locate.

Anyone here have any clues or contacts or suggestions onto rectify before I leave SA.

I am amazed by the amount of wind and air pressure under the bus.

Last week into a headwind, the floor battery cover (600x600 mm about 40mm ply) was lifting up inches in the wind. Crazy.

"tanks" here---Kappy,
The local shire council carry out regular possible daily patrols along the hiway and stop areas. A call to them for a Ranger to keep his/her eyes open may find the panel. Send them a photo so as they know what to look for.

Penong Roadhouse Caltex phone: (08) 8625 1012. it might be worth a call and ask them to put up a notice asking travelers to keep a lookout- if found post send to you from the next town or whatever. Offer a small reward might help.

Dept of Parks, Transport, and Infrastructure SA Gov (08) 8648 5211,
they have a contractor who services the highway, however due to privacy they cant give me his number but will give him my number and ask him to call me.

I have lost your phone number in my address book since I have this new Telstra phone , so can you send me a p/m with your mobile number.
Keith

Be better to get the original if it isn't beaten up too much. We can weld up a frame and fold a skin for the door if you can't find the original, but you would still need to get it painted. Is it aluminium or steel Wayne? Is it a door or just a panel that locks in somehow?
Bruce, Gerry is a machinist extraordinaire, but I doubt making body panels is his thing ;)

Thanks everyone.

Had a fleeting thought of driving back to where I belive it could be, but a 200k round trip, felt not worth the effort.

Terry it was just a flat piece of high density aluminium sheeting.

I can fabricate a steel frame, got my welder on board.

Probably will make a cover from Marine ply, its only an access to the steering box area.

I spoke with and left a flyer at Penong Roadhouse and General store.

The following is one of the lugs that locks the panel in.

Anyone have any ideas where I may get hold of a couple.

Hi Kappy,

If you need a lug just like in the photo. - possibly weld a bolt shank to a piece of flat.
