Thought for Today

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

The whole meat industry is another unknown area. Will it continue to function, think of all the people involved in each step of the process, the farmer to the truck driver who carts the animals to market, the buyers at the auction, the abettors, the meat carters and the butcher shops along with all the small goods producers. Every step of the way is a potential transmission path of the virus, if it contaminated the meat any where in the supply chain, would that be yet another path for spreading it around?
I don't fancy the thought of becoming a vegetarian

The local butcher shop here in Mulwala has already been told by their supplier that the price of everything is probably going to double with the next delivery. Don't know why, maybe because they can!

The vegie prices are well up so the meat market is next, just profiteering while they can. What gets me the dam sporting people "oh woe is me" those players earn enough so if they haven't made hay while the sun was shining then stiff titties and join the life of the majority that will be struggling. They are able to go on the dole. end of rant :D

Been a vegetarian/almost vegan for over 40 years, has nothing to do with not eating animals, but common sense, good health and outcomes. It's also about the balance of life on the planet and some of the reasons we are having these problems, is because of humans refusing to adhere to the balance of life and consuming every living thing, rather than concentrate on living things which when harvested, continue to grow and produce as part of their natural cycle. That doesn't include enslaving animals for greed and gluttony, which dramatically increases the chance of contamination and vulnerability of food supplies.

In nature, carnivores and in fact all living things only kill to eat, not for fun or gluttony. If humans had more care for other life, we may not have these problems. After all they keep telling us our lifestyles and diets are bringing us better health, one look at the health system and today's situation, shows that is not the case at all, just the opposite.

Each to their own, I was just speaking for myself, not for all the people who read this forum or society in general. I might have to learn how to catch under ground mutton and skippy cattle. Haven't got a gun so I can't shoot them like I did in the past, but I don't have any reservations about slaughtering and eating them because they breed to suit the available feed and each one I kill for food allows another one to have enough food to breed and produce one to take its place. I think this might be the turning point where the excesses of the past meant certain food was not acceptable to the finer palettes but now will become a much needed source of food.
I doubt too many European Carp will be tossed up the bank to rot in the next few mths, recipes that make them a tasty meal will have them become part of a regular weekly menu. We won't be poisoning rabbits, having culling shoots on roos and goats or ducks, but rather farming them for their meat. Not too sure on the feral cat and wild dog entering the food chain any time soon, but who knows what will become a necessity as time goes on.
There was a time not too long back that lamb shanks were considered dog food, now they demand top $$ on the fine cuisine menu, a skippy steak is great eating if you know how to cook it without making it tough but remain full of flavour ...

I'm just mentioning the real medical science, statistically backed up world wide throughout every society, not the propaganda we are fed by vested economic interests and it is not my opinion. My opinion of the world situation now, would probably shock most people into deep denial, so not worth mentioning.

The idea of eating native animals in Aus, especially Roo's, is the right approach, they provide excellent lean non toxic meats. Because of their lifestyle, they would enhance the environment and help ecological recovery, don't require the same fencing, no drugs to keep them healthy, no requirement to access feed and no significant green house gas emissions. Roo meat tastes so much better than any introduced meats and it would solve many problems around our country, environmentally economically and ecologically, as well as improve human health across the board.

Interesting times ahead for us all and the planet. at least there is one good thing, pollution levels have dropped significantly around the globe since this virus struck. Maybe when urban people suddenly see the sky and not just crap, they may realise how bad we have made life on the planet and change. Won't be holding my breath waiting for that to happen, have little faith in ideological humanity looking forward logically.
