Craig, I can't really confirm it is now Ok to flat tow the new Jimmy, but I have seen quite a few being toad. It would be good if you can, as it would add another vehicle to the potential mix of what can be successfully flat towed. Sometimes having to deal with the trailer can be a real p.i.a.
Cheers

Jarnar tools in Melb. He supplies all hitch stuff and has a list of suitable cars for flat towing

Re: Flat towing new model jimny?
Does the new Jimny have a neutral in the transfer case? The older models do not so they require the modification that disconnects the drive to the rear tailshaft. In either case, free wheeling hubs for the front axle would be a good idea, saves fuel and wear n tear on the front diff, tailshaft and transfer box.

Re: Flat towing new model jimny?
All I know is the 2007 model said in the owners handbook (in bold capital letters) "DO NOT FLAT-TOW THIS VEHICLE!"
Said if it must be towed with 2 wheels on the road, to hoist the rear & lash the steering wheel.
Apart from the fun of trying to lash it so the wheels were dead-ahead, there's the problem of lashing it so there's NO movement!
Fat chance.
Means if it Failed To Proceed under its own steam, it was trailer/flatbed truck or nothing.
Regarding models since 2007, I know 0.

Re: Flat towing new model jimny?
Thanks for the responses. The reason for asking is I see in the brochure that they have gone back to transfer case gear lever shift. I have heard back on another forum and apparently the answer is no. It still requires a mod to be able to flat tow.

Re: Flat towing new model jimny?
I did test-drive the new model about 12 months ago.
Jim the Junior Jeep (auto shift, vintage 2007) had a 2WD/4WD electric selector with 3 buttons on the dash: 2WD/4WD/4WD LR.
2019 model had a shift lever alongside the (auto) gearshift.
I THINK it had a neutral position, but memory is not clear on that.
Just a clarification...
