Re: Phone app
Cuppa, no argument at all, just a discussion in my opinion. Gave up arguing with people decades ago, everyone has their own opinions and that's fine by me. Base my opinions and views of the world on history, the veracity of the political system and future possibilities. The future holds the truth about this app and also for humanity, which I feel the vast majority ignore and history proves that to be true.
For some reason humans seem to think the past has no relationship to their future and what they are told by the authorities is gospel (
). Yet history always repeats itself over and over, just different scenarios and our governments fool the people on every occasion. One look at all their claims, promises and outcomes shows us they can't be trusted in any way. They claimed privatisation would bring lower costs more competition etc, yet the complete opposite has happened and yet they continue privatising everything we own. Why would anyone with even half a brain believe anything they say, when the facts, outcomes are always different to their claims and always harm the peoples lives and future outcomes.
This is because the vast majority of humans are ideologues and believe in fantasy outcomes, so they accept the lies, deceptions and false hope the ruling elites always give them and they always lose out in the end. I'm a rebel, always have been, go my own way as responsibly as possible and never believe anything people in power say.

Np, As I said previously, I think that you & I have many beliefs in common. This post of yours reinforces that. The significant difference, it seems to me, is that on this occasion regarding the app I am prepared to 'make an exception' & you are not. Let's hope that history will be kind to us both.native pepper wrote: ↑Wed Apr 29, 2020 7:36 am Cuppa, no argument at all, just a discussion in my opinion. I'll weigh in on this one and use myself as a prime example.Cuppa wrote: ↑Wed Apr 29, 2020 8:32 amNp, As I said previously, I think that you & I have many beliefs in common. I've been a staunch Labor supporter since the days of Gough. I can see nothing good about the coalition. Just a continuous repeat of more of the same.
Reduce spending..... Balance the budget.
Privatise government entities.(translation. Sell off to big business)
Rinse and repeat.
BUT .... I'll be the first to put my hand up and say ScoMo seems to be doing a fantastic job. Top marks. I've had other Labor supporters tell me Albo would have done as good as or better a job. Is that correct? Maybe. Maybe not. We'll never know for sure.
So, Am I prepared to make judgements based on past performance? Yup.
But am I prepared to make an exception when I see just cause? You betcha!

Re: Phone app
Cuppa, I agree with you, however I make exceptions for real people, not ideological clones who by definition are corrupt liars and deceivers, that sums up our entire political system. This app, is just another waste of time and already bringing results that are effecting people adversely. This article among many others show that's already happening, it's already been hacked and used to try to scam people. Love my privacy, in the 20+ years have lived at my present base, would have had less than 10 visitors, that's how much I like socialising, but really happy playing to crowds.
"COVIDsafe tracking app users are sent hoax texts telling them they've been busted breaching lockdown laws - here's how to spot if you've been targeted"

When you use codes that are as easily hacked as iOS and android, it's not only logical but destined to be manipulated by others scamming and taking data. If they can do what they are already doing with it, then getting the data would be a piece of cake, in fact anyone with bluetooth could easily collect the data going from one bluetooth to another. As soon as you give them your pH number, they know exactly who and where you are all the time if they want and your ph has a specific code to log into towers, which is broadcast every time you pass a tower, or bluetooth signal. As the days go on, you can bet the claims of this app being safe, will go the same way everything politicians say, bullshit.
Grand dad, if I remember correctly it was Keating that started the privatisation drive and it was keating who created the recession we didn't need or had to have and labour is no different to the liberals/nationals/greens or any party. The libs and labs have done a terrible job with this virus around the country, they didn't believe it would harm us until it was to late. They allowed cruise ships, students, tourists, ex pats to come into the country and bring it with them. When they should have shut the country down instantly it was discovered in January and none of the parties should have let our industries be destroyed, or farms, airports and docks to be sold of to the chinese and other overseas interests. They have one aim, economic growth via population increase and corporate profit growth, when we need a stable sustainable economy, not a growing destructive one
Now we are at the mercy of overseas states, when it comes to income, defence, fuels and commodities. No properly run business could survive under those conditions and are always taken over or go broke, no different to a nations economy that's controlled from outside and ours is.
Sorry have absolutely no faith whatsoever in the political system, globalisation or economic growth, All things in existence have a limit and after that, it's all down hill into oblivion. We have passed that point and this app may lead to more distress for all down the road. You only have to look at the track record of all our political parties to see they are the biggest danger to our future, nothing else.

Re: Phone app
It astonishes me that someone so obviously thoughtful & careful with his privacy would use web sites belonging to The Daily Mail!
As I told Terry earlier, I won't turn off my ad blocker in order to read the sort of manipulative drivel which passes for news in that rag.
As far as hoax messages go, most of us have had the phishing type emails or messages at some time. You know, the type that tell you your Windows computer is infected when you have a Mac, or your Westpac bank account has been compromised when you bank with the NAB. Getting hoax messages about the Covid Safe app could be just that - Phishing - the scammers would have to strike lucky sometimes.
Only a guess on my part as I will not open full article to read - but history would tell us that newspapers like the Daily Mail are very much 'agenda driven', & often try to promote & cash in on populist nonsense & by deliberately stirring up controversy with little regard for truth or facts. This makes for a fairly high chance the hoax messages it reports are indeed just phishing exercises, but I bet they fail to mention that, as inferring the app has been hacked is a much juicier story. If by chance I'm wrong, & they do provide evidence of actual hacking of the app would you copy the relevant parts here so I can read it but stay safe from their online tentacles please ?
I think it fairly safe to assume however that if the app really has been hacked that it would be headline news in the full range of media, not just a something down in the grubby corner.

Re: Phone app
Cuppa my computing is very secure, never get any scams, phishing, intrusions or anything else, including no adverts on any site and no spam in any of my email addresses, not even the bands. I read many many news sites, so can get a balanced approach and don't have much faith in any of them including the ABC. They are also subject to vested and ideological interests of their own.Cuppa wrote: ↑Wed Apr 29, 2020 11:20 am It astonishes me that someone so obviously thoughtful & careful with his privacy would use web sites belonging to The Daily Mail!

Of course if you do get those notices and you haven't downloaded the app, then it is just a phishing exercise. There's a huge amount of censorship and fake news coming from governments daily and what they call redacted. in their farcical FIO act. But it's still censorship and desperation to keep the truth from the people. No different to their claim the code for this app would be released last week, yet not a word about that and the government avoids answering when asked why it hasn't been released.
My last word on this subject is, we will wait and see what the future holds and hopefully you will be right. Hate to think I was right, as it all makes no difference to me in any way, my future is planned and prepared for, what ever happens. So can go on enjoying myself and not worrying about who to believe, not much truth in the human world today anyway, so why worry as to who's right and who's wrong. In the end it will make no difference to the outcomes we face which can't be avoided, other than by some miracle and not holding my breath waiting for that to happen.

The original article was in "The Australian" but you have to buy a subscription to view it ... not happening here that's for sure.Cuppa wrote: ↑Wed Apr 29, 2020 11:20 am It astonishes me that someone so obviously thoughtful & careful with his privacy would use web sites belonging to The Daily Mail!

Do I trust the govt, no, after the Robo Debt mess that still hasn't been sorted, in my opinion they don't deserve anyone's trust, but that is another issue. The fact they gave Amazon the job of storing and safe guarding the information is the part that concerns me. I guess it could have been worse, like Farcebook or similar, but Amazon is well known as a serious data mining operation and to believe they wouldn't back door all that information ??????
I'll wait to see some good come from the use of the app before I'd consider it, than I will way up the good verses the potential bad and see which way the scales tip. I know that Bluetooth and/or location seriously eats up my battery power to the point it needs to be on a power supply to last the day, so it will be interesting what the app users report as far as the reduced battery time with the app loaded, it does run 24/7 once activated ....
