Vic / NSW Border closes

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

My comments are directed at the senior bureaucracy and political system, which are overrun with idiots and fools, that's easily seen with the situation of the virus, how our society is run and where we are heading.

I must be weird, in my entire life have had little trouble organising my life and getting things done. Because of my upbringing, learnt very quickly you are either organised with plan A-B-C and in charge of your life, or you're at the pleasure of circumstances created by others and that can lead to problems. The music industry reinforced this reality, as you need different plans to cater for the unforeseen circumstances that can arise and are beyond your control, which can leave you hanging or overwhelmed.

I'm not having a go at anyone, just the system and don't attack people for their views, unlike many others. I may not agree with what someone says, but that's no reason to attack them, find that approach rather infantile and steeped in fear, lack of understanding and bias. If you have an open mind, you always learn something even from the biggest fools and idiots. To me all knowledge and viewpoints are important, irrelevant to their veracity.

I saw on the ABC news that the bridge at Tooleybuc has been closed so the round trip to Swan Hill extends the travel time for locals quite a bit. There was also someone talking about truck drivers being forced into 14 day quarantine as the crossed the Victoria/NSW border. Naturally that can't continue, but the fact the drivers are travelling through the affected areas does seriously increase the risk of transporting the virus interstate. They might have to set up a trailer exchange site and associated website for the smaller trucking mobs to organise someone within the state can collect the trailer and deliver it, reload it and drop it back at the trailer exchange so the driver from quarantined state to take it through that leg of the journey. It would be quite a logistic nightmare for the bigger trucking companies, can you imagine the problems the single truck owner would face ...... Might push them completely out of the interstate business until it all clears, does that freight end up going on the rail?

Truck drivers are 'essential' & get a 7 day 'visa/pass', & have to renew it weekly as I understand it.

Jd today I was a very naughty girl  Gman went to the dentist and while we were in the waiting room my dentist's assistant spotted me and gestured to me to go into the passage (out of site of other patients)and she gave me the usual big bear hug  . She has been involved ever since my dentist first noticed a prob with Ms tongue. So there you have it my naughty confession and I shall give myself a good old tongue / arm lashing
Have a friend that lives in Nelson (Vic) he has a travel permit to go to Mt Gambier (shopping & medical)but the coppers wouldn't let him through so he had to go to another town miles away but in Vic.?? Too confusing for me, I will stay here for another 9 mths or so

That's an interesting suggestion and one that has a precedent.

I'm not sure if they still do it but years ago drivers from Melbourne and Sydney used to meet up at Tumbalong.
Tumbalongs main claim to fame was they had a servo/diner with a parking lot big enough to swing a semi in.

The drivers would meet there, swap trailers and head back home. The idea always seemed to be so sensible.

I know some companies like IPEC used to have a driver to the border and then swap drivers for the rest of the trip, so the truck kept on going and the drivers didn't leave their home state.

I can't remember if the depot was on the NSW side or the Victorian side, but it wouldn't matter at the moment, it would need to be an area approved by both states to be neutral, surveillance policed, have independent people who did the trailer connection/disconnection so the drivers never left their cab, and a massive logistics platform organised to link each trailer to the truck involved with that part of the run. Insurance, customer confidence, a whole heap of issues for the owner driver to tackle.

Keeps the drivers happier if they get to sleep in their own beds more often too.
But some might be happier sleeping in other peoples beds.... :?
