Covid Alert... REALLY!!

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Covid Alert... REALLY!!

Post by Greynomad »

As most of you are aware, our son was an ICU nurse.
He's now an ICU Nurse Educator with Melbourne Uni, which includes classroom lectures (of late, done on Zoom) and on-ward training of nurses. He also undertakes some ward duties himself to ensure he's up with the latest practices & technology. A bit like pilot trainers being required to fly to keep their skills sharp.

Had a call from him tonight.

His hospital is one of a pair under joint management. They have until now sent all Covid cases to one campus, to keep the other 'clean'. Staff were also quarantined, rather than switching between the two as had been the case. Our son is based at the 'clean' campus.

This week, due to the other hospital's ICU reaching 100% capacity, they had two cases admitted to his campus ICU. One was discharged to a recovery ward.
The other was discharged to the morgue.

His hospital is now instigating their Crisis Plan, anticipating a full ICU very soon, and they have converted an adjoining ward into a second ICU.

So brace for it people. Things are about to get a whole lot worse in Victoria.
Regards & God bless,
Ray

Thanks Ray.

I think we're just in for the long haul and hope that any one who catches it survives with their original health intact.
Let's hope that the infection rates can be contained and kept to a minimum.

From what I've been told and read, you don't recover from this virus very well, or at all so far. Everyone who has had it claims they are still trying to recover months after and they constantly have relapses, even when they are tested negative and now the medical science is saying that the antibodies you develop during the infection, don't last long which makes you vulnerable and already we are seeing those who have been infected twice, or test postive after testing negative a few times.

Seems we are entering a new era where our medical science may not cope with this viral attack and if so, we may see a real collapse of world societies before things level out.

Well, this morning’s news really presents me with an “I told you so” moment... which I will try to resist. 😳
Four hundred and twenty two new cases overnight, and three more deaths.
It’s tragic, not only for the friends and family of the deceased, but for the whole state & country.
Unfortunately, one of those deceased was previously tested positive and advised to go home and isolate himself. What he did instead was to visit his extended family... while he knew he was contagious!!! 😳🙄
Beggars belief, doesn’t it?
Not only has he paid the ultimate price for his stupidity, but his entire extended family could suffer the same fate. 😡
Not to mention their friends and casual contacts...
That’s why it’s called a ”pandemic”!

In a related aside: while our son has no time for shopping, a nearby friend reports that the local shopping plaza is still busy and thriving to the point that he had difficulty getting a parking spot. WHAT PANDEMIC??😡😳
Regards & God bless,
Ray

I see the Peter Mac has rearranged things so they can take the non Covid patients from other hospitals to free up ward space for Covid patients .... how long before there is a cross over?
A paramedic was talking on the ABC that she started to see symptoms while away on holidays and has no idea where she contracted it. She said they wear full PPE including white sperm suits while working .... let's hope she didn't catch it from someone she was delivering to a hospital, that would mean the whole PPE thing would need to be reassessed. The worrying thing is, it appears a number of the front line medical staff have now contracted the virus, they would also have full PPE and follow the strictest hygiene regimes, so .......

On another note, while at the doctors yesterday, I asked if I could get a Covid test, just to be sure my sniffles and sore throat were just the usual ones I suffer every winter since I can remember, even hospitalised as a kid from it ...... No was the answer, you don't need it .... what??? :o The news says to get tested if you have the slightest symptoms or even suspect you might have it n :? So, Margaret went on line to find a walk in clinic ... you need something from your health professional before booking in for a test .... how serious are they about making sure there are no symptom free or very mild symptom carries in the community?

T1 Terry
EDIT:
Just to add a bit more to there craziness, there is a sign on the door of the medical practice to not enter if you have any symptoms ..... so do you wait till you topple over and an ambulance gets you in through the door?

I've noted that lots of medical staff don't have eye cover, just a mask and gloves, yet they say one of the easiest ways to contract it is through the eyes. Wonder why they haven't advocated eye protection as well as gloves and masks, probably because they still don't believe the science and have the attitude, it won't happen to me, as I still come across those who think it's a con job by supposed elites and many young have that attitude.

Now you know why I pref animals to humans, we are the most stupid invention ever  Back in NZ I was getting the top off the suction bottle to empty it, it was very hard to get off but when it did all the bloody stuff splashed all over my face and that included my eyes. Turned out the patient had Hepatitis C but being a private hosp there was no access to their history by the theater staff. I had to get tested for the next 12 mths just in case. Pretty soon after that we all had to wear full face protection.

Latest news is that hotels & a club in the Newcastle area are being disinfected after a chappie visited.
Lambton Park & Jesmond hotels were mentioned...

Newcastle George, how close are you to the Jesmond pub?
Stating the bleeding obvious, I'd steer well clear of it for a while... :?

Ray, the interesting thing about that incident is that the person involved went out every night that he was in town. Maybe if he learnt to cook for himself, or to buy his booze online, he might have saved our town from the disease. Now it looks like it's inevitable that Newcastle will become a hot spot. Watch this space.
I am sure that George would stay away from such busy places at the moment....I hope so anyway.
