I think you are underestimating China's military standing, they would be ready to go tomorrow if needed. Germany was not supposed to be ready for a full blown war either, history showed the rest of the world wasn't either until a combination of the USA and Russia added their strength to the allied forces to crush the German war machine ...... that won't happen with China for the very reasons you have already listed. They have the capability to knock satellites out of the sky now, take the USA out of the fight and there isn't much that could or would stop them from doing it.
The Chinese don't need to sneak up on the USA, the fight is already there, they just step in at the end and take over .....

It seems India is being forgotten as they are not far behind China for war hardware and technology and like China have a population to feed any war. If China did make a move on anyone India would not need much encouragement to join any fight against China. Lets hope it never gets that far.

NP,
I don’t think Biden will need to drop dead for a right-wing led civil war to break out.
Simply him winning would seem to be enough.
Polls have revealed that at least ⅓ of Republican Trump supporters (as distinct from sane Republicans) think violence will be acceptable if he loses to Biden.

You reckon they'd give them curry eh ...... There is also the possibility that the USA will just be left to self destruct, they don't actually have a lot that any country would want, their manufacturing is non existent, bit like ours, all the technology the Chinese already have (bit like us too) and they have dug up or poisoned the ground so bad they wouldn't be worth the effort for a stable food supply or mineral harvest. Here is where we stand alone, we can grow good crops, still have plenty to dig up and not a big population to subvert because the bases has already been established in our universities, harbours and air ports ..... They couldn't afford to go to war with us unless they were sure they would win, if the govt resumed ownership of all Chinese holding because of a war footing being established, China would need to regain control before the effects were felt too seriously back home and they had an internal fight on their hands as well. They already have serious problems, if they couldn't get baby formula would be enough to push the whole thing over the edge, so loosing the food security and minerals they need could really cause them problems ...... If China was defeated, what country would want to take control?

Re: Pardon my Schadenfreude

Maybe the British might be interested in taking over the running of China if the communist party get toppled, they did run Hong Kong for quite a while and have had past experience with oppressed people and rule at the point of a gun ........
They are doing a top job of thinning the population back home so they could probably reduce the Chinese population down to a number they could possibly feed and keep organised .......
Perhaps Germany? A whole new market place that wouldn't need so much propping up the way the European Common Market does ..... Is my cynicism showing ......

Re: Pardon my Schadenfreude
Not a matter of need for Biden to drop dead, just a big possibility considering his age and biological, civil war may break out whatever happens. Although according to my USA friends, most people have had enough of the Rump and like in our country, find both parties to be useless self serving and totally corrupt. Which I think you will find is the feeling in most countries regarding their governments.Greynomad wrote: ↑Sat Oct 10, 2020 9:21 am NP,

We are at the end of an era of humanity and like in the past, there is only one way to go, down. All world leaders are obsessed ideological sociopaths and or psychopaths, all think their way is the right way, when the facts are the opposite.
Trump is a coward, like all psychotic pathological psychopaths, they have big mouths, brag a lot and make sweeping egocentric statements but when put to the test or faced with reality, they crumble like dry sand in your hand.

Re: Pardon my Schadenfreude
This could be the more serious problem. Voting is not compulsory over there, so if people are disillusioned by all the available candidates, they just won't vote at all. This leaves it open for the crazies to vote Donald back in because no one voted against it, a President by default. I'm scared to think what lunacy he could/would come up with believing he has the will of the people ...... but if they don't vote they can't very well rise up in revolt against his re-election can they .... well, they are yanks so ..... who actually does understand how they thinknative pepper wrote: ↑Sat Oct 10, 2020 4:47 pmNot a matter of need for Biden to drop dead, just a big possibility considering his age and biological, civil war may break out whatever happens. They need a campaign that says "If you didn't vote, don't complain about the outcome. The power is in your hands, use it"

Re: Pardon my Schadenfreude
It's a wait and see situation, in my experience, there are 2 types of yank, the ideologically insane and those that fear the ideologically insane. Trying to work out which is which can be very confusing until you hit their ideological button, then you know.
It's interesting the rump is desperately trying to stop mail voting and disenfranchising as many as possible, what effect that will have on voting numbers, is anyone's guess.
