Australian Trivia Only

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

OK, thanks Shirley.

One of Australia’s earliest defensive structures is Fort Grey.
Where is it, who built it and why?

I must confess that all this is from Mr google.
Fort Grey is in far nth west NSW. Built in 1845 by the party of Sturt the Explorer. It was built to protect the expedition from the local aboriginal people who were in the area.

There isnt much left there, but there is a camp ground named Fort Grey in the area. I dont think most of us will ever be in a position to travel there. Has any of our members been there?

I had never heard of this before and it makes for an interesting read. Ray, please find another obscure question for us to answer.
Cheers

Correct, David!
We visited in 1999. All that’s left is (was) a rapidly disappearing berm bank, (wind erosion) on top of which Sturt’s party apparently built a palisade wall. No evidence of that remains.
As the road/track in — 100km from Tibooburra — had recently been graded after rain damage, it was navigable in our Coaster m/h.
We got within 4km of Poppels Corner before the sand hills defeated us.

The reason I asked if Australia was because mr google told me Guensey Islands.

Didn't he write "robbery under arms", think he real name was Tom brown, but probably wrong and don't feel like googling it.
