Double Lines

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Double Lines

Post by Shirley »

When I pick the g'sons up from school,I park opposite the school in one of the 18 rear to kerb parking bays, at the end of the bays there is a roundabout where you can continue straight ahead, turn right or come back up the hill to a drop off school zone along the front of the school, my question, is it legal for me to turn back to the right & cross double lines which run the length of the road to the roundabout or should I turn left & go down & around the roundabout to return home ? NSW rule.

Shirley,

In Vic, you are not allowed to cross a double white line or (now) a solid single line.

If it was me, I'd be going around the roundabout.

The same rule applies in Qld as well. One of our NSW members will chime on soon.

Shirley, the only reason that you are legally able to cross an unbroken line is to get into a driveway. I think you would be safest to continue down the street and make your turn legally. xxxx

I have a safety motto, never cross a double line. I would go straight ahead to be sure.

Thanks everyone, as I pick up 4 boys I am usually not first to leave, I have noticed that some turn left & go down around the roundabout to leave, others pull out & turn right crossing the double lines, I don't want to receive a penalty notice in the post.
The police do sit there some mornings catching folk dropping kids in the no stopping & bus zone which continues up the hill passed the drop off zone, also folk traveling over 40.

Good on you for asking.

Safety at the best of times, esp when kids and cars are involved.

Gwandalan public school George, Kanangra Drive, Gwandalan, the road has all recently been upgraded & parking bays constructed, roundabout too, if you turn right at the roundabout you enter a new housing estate.

Kanangra Drive continues to Point Wolstoncroft, the school camp, I went there when I was at primary school myself, caught the steam train up from Sydney to Wyong & bus out to the camp.

Bruce I knew re the crossing double lines when passing a cyclists, our youngest son cycles.
