Ban political donations, give each candidate a one page once only spread in local papers, one page online with an area for questions and answers about policies, which would have strict rules and moderated. Then make them sign stat decs surrounding their policies with criminal charges for any who don't implement or stray from their declared policies. Allow no political advertising anywhere, and we would have a level playing field for elections. Get rid of preferential voting and make it first across the line.T1 Terry wrote: ↑Tue Nov 17, 2020 3:39 pmIf the Liberals didn't get the Nationals vote and a few of the other party votes, we would only ever have the labor party in power ..... be careful what you wish forBrucie2 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 17, 2020 7:56 am If it wasn't for independents, greens, democrats & many more throwing their preferences one way, that other mob would never get in anywhere.
How democratic is that?
How come it's OK for unions to throw millions into the fighting fund but not big business to do the same?![]()
I agree with the massive funds that go to various parties to buy favours is wrong, but how do we fix it?

NP, with First Past the Post voting it could mean that in an electorate where there are 3 or more candidates, there may be more voters who do not want the one who has the most votes eg. 38, 32,30.

Re: President Clown’s Unbeatable Logic
Just an idea of the top of my head George hadn't thought it through, your right, maybe just first preference or something restrictive to stop the rot. There must be a better way, but when you have the majority sticking to the status quo with their voting, we can expect nothing less than the total incompetence and corruption we are seeing.
Our system is so well set up to support the incumbent parties, it's pathetic and they pay themselves for the votes they get. In my opinion that's beyond a joke and nothing more that outright corruption to use our money to pay for their election bills, so the major parties get millions for the votes they receive.
So we deserve the trumps, Morrisons and all other political leaders, who the majority continuously vote in whilst watching their lives become enslaved and fractured, on what is now a merry go round inside a revolving door society, going nowhere but into oblivion.

Re: President Clown’s Unbeatable Logic
Change the form the local candidate is signed into which ever parliament to performance contract based. Poor performance in the way of delivering what was promised has a direct reflection on what they get paid ... that would stop the over promise and under deliver B/S we have at the moment. A clause in the contract that any illegal activity including taking bribes in any form immediately constitutes breach of contract and all monies received must be repaid and no pension other than the same standard pension all us plebs have to beg and scrape for .....

Include donations as bribes Terry, Dot NZ is still a political party controlled system. Although they look to have a very progressive and understanding PM, how she plans the real future will reveal the depth of her understanding.

Re: President Clown’s Unbeatable Logic
At least you are not forced to vote and no pref votes and a PM that at least listen to the people. She did assist me recently and big results have and are still happening. She may have her downfalls but none to make me vote against her. See the pumpkin head has now sacked another of his top people because he didn't agree with him not even the balls to do it face to face.native pepper wrote: ↑Wed Nov 18, 2020 5:48 pm Include donations as bribes Terry, Dot NZ is still a political party controlled system. Compulsory voting at least makes people think about it, even if they put in a dodgy vote, unlike USA where only a minority of the population votes and then complains about the idiot they get.

Re: President Clown’s Unbeatable Logic
On preferential voting.
Let's say there are 3 candidates running for an important position.
You believe A is the absolute bee's knees and will do a great job.
Candidate B is not bad. He'll do a good job but not as well A.
C is a complete moron and the country/county/city/state will suffer badly if he wins.
You vote for A and there it is a "first past the post" style election.
A doesn't do well at all. He's out of the running and it's now between B & C. And it's a close race.
Do you still think first past the post is a good system? Or do you want your voice to still be heard?
Jim

Re: President Clown’s Unbeatable Logic
Dot, NZ has a different system to ours, it's compulsory to be enrolled to vote, but not compulsory to actually vote and they have a single parliament, no senate or other house, just one. This makes it very different to here where supposedly our upper houses keeps the lower houses honest. However as party power and never ending bribery are a part of our system, that doesn't work, so nothing will ever change.
The only way we can have true representation, is to put the operation and control of the country directly into the hands of the people by referendum style government online. We also have to understand, that our federal representatives are elected unconstitutionally, our constitution states categorically that representatives must be elected by direct vote. There is nowhere in the constitution that says representatives can be elected by preferential voting. How can we claim to have a constitutional government, when representatives are elected by unconstitutional means. Which in my eyes, proves why our country is in the situation we see, those representing us, have no constitutional basis to be there, or take and give away our money to their vested interests.
