HELP.....

Hey T1

Need serious advice.
Something has gone very wrong with my setup.
Dingo on...solar on...inverter on. Alarms going nuts and inverter reporting high voltage shut down.
I turn the solar off and everything calms down. Turn solar back on and the alarms start up again and inverter shuts down.

With solar off...dingo reports 12.5 v, inverter reports 12.4 v and the Victron reports 13.72 v.

It’s doing my head in.

Any ideas

Ps when I turn the solar on the dingo jumps straight to 15,5v

Hi Peter, you have a high resistance joint either on the battery positive or the megafuse or the Gigavac (in the control box yellow thing with the big black solenoid and a stud and nut either side) ...... Probably find the cable also has melted the insulation where the bad joint it located. Generally caused by vibration gradually undoing the nut or bolt until the clamping pressure is insufficient to hold the lug in place and arcing across the joint begins.
Depending on just how long the problem has been serious as to just how much damage there will be. I've seen the thread on the Gigavac stud burnt so badly the nut could not be tightened of loosed and the only fix was a new cable and a new Gigavac .... those things are expensive .....

A note to all lithium system owners, check every connection regularly, just the touch test on all the cables that are at battery voltage will tell you if you need to check further, the hot cable will tell you where the loose joint is and you can tighten it up again.
Not a recommended practice when it comes to 240vac cables ..... they can really bite
An investment in an infra red thermometer will save a lot of concern and it can be used to check any cable joint as well as wheel bearings and tyre temps to see if there is a problem on the horizon .....

Hmmm you know your stuff. Cable from Gigavac just slightly loose. Tightened it up and all problems have gone away.
