There wouldn't be too much of anything on those cars that would be available from a dealer. Doesnt quite hold the interest like it used to.

Had a look in a shed last week on a farm. A Holden De Ville 1972 or 74 model, with a genuine 42,000 ks on the odometer, yes it had club plates on it. It was in perfect condition.

I totally agree. I lost all interest when they stopped Series Production racing. Today, they seem to just be formula one race cars that have a fibreglass body that vaguely resembles something in a dealership.

I used to attend Bathurst until the late 70s, when I got married.
Switched to ‘worshiping at the Mount’ via TV... until Series Production gave way to V8 Supercars.
Now I’m not bothered if I have something else scheduled when Bathurst is on...
Missed Saturday’s race entirely (garden needed work) and only caught the last 10 laps yesterday (same reason).

At least with Series Production — provided you had the cash — you had a chance of getting your hands on a duplicate of the winning car.
No possibility of that with the $2m+ Supercars — even if you did have the money.

Silhouette or parity series racing (Supercars) is boring and irrelevant to anything automotive that we can buy.
Aside from a bonnet or bootlid there is no "Holden" parts in the Commodore, at least The Mustang has a Ford engine, albeit not one anyone can just go and buy. Did you know that the motor in the Commodore is basically a Chev with Ford heads?

Anyway, the best racing all weekend is Touring Car Masters.
Unfortunately even they are not really representative of the cars from the era, too many freedoms especially with suspension and brake setups.
And then they knobble the winners as well.

I agree, Production car racing is far more interesting, the original Bathurst races in the 60's were cars you could go and buy from a showroom.
The re-birth in the 90's with the 12 hour races was also really good, but not enough rev heads followed it to make it viable.
Shame, but that's progress I guess.
