Best Internet Booster

Post by RobertNotBob »

Looking to install a system which will boost our internet connection. Our provider is Telstra.

We would like to get out a look at more of SA and if we find a good spot stop and stay for a few days and relax.

Proplem is Molly still has to work and to do that she needs good internet connection for laptop and phone reception.

Any help appreciated cheers Robert

That's it Wayne!!!
Depends on how much data a month will be used & if it's essential to be a fast rate.
There are several companies specializing in satellite service.
Won't be long till Amazon & the other Billionaires join with sat service too but it might be a bit longer for our hemisphere to join in.
Google is your friend!

Up until the virus, we conducted our musical business whilst travelling. Checked out satellite, to expensive, slow and to much trouble setting it up. So got sims for both optus and telstra and in the end dropped telstra as we seemed to get better reception with optus/,amaysin, but moved from amaysims when optus took it over and increased charges, as well as changing to a 28 day cycle, which means you pay for an extra month each year. Now with Moose which gives me 6gig for $12.80 per calendar month, will have to wait until we can get back on the road before finding out if it is still satisfactory for our needs and use a dongle and laptop for internet work. Find it much faster on the laptop than Ph.

Robert, our internet is fed from a telstra wifi dongle ( Nighthawk M2 mobile router) , which we bought from telstra. It doesn't use any fixed lines and goes with us anywhere we travel. The only place that it didn't give us a signal was at King Canyon and nothing at all worked there, and a couple of really outback spots on the road into Uluru and that was all the issues we have had. It is our home internet as well and I consider that we get as good a speed as any of the locals who have the full wires to house stuff.
We have tried a few different styles of antenna for it, but mostly we found they are useless and are happy with what the thing manages to do anyways.

Hope this helps you to save some dough...better spend it on petrol than on the interweb.
Deborah

We still haven't made the move, but enough research told me that you need two yagi aerials that work with the booster to be worth the effort. Omni directional only improves a reasonable signal, Yagi can be directed to the tower but you need both the vertical and horizontal plane aerials to cover all the possibilities .... and they seem to compliment each other ... must make them feel better about themselves or something, but they say it does improve the genuine signal and reduces the background noise signals that show up as bars on the reception but don't actually give you anything usable .....

Brian bought an omni directional type from Telstra itself, a bit of $1,000 and seems to have improved the reception for every Telstra user in the marina ... just not his

Agree, T1.
In the Bundaberg CM€^ RV Park, we could not get ANY television stations. Apparently the local stations’ signals are vertical and our Winegard T-shaped aerial receives only horizontal signals… or vice versa.
Other vanners with those butterfly aerials could get a signal, as one is mounted vertically and the other horizontally.
Don’t ask me to explain… 🤔

Ray, you can get a conversion aerial for about $150 I think that will fit your Winegard. I put one on our Winny a few years back, and since then only been to two spots where no reception.
Edit. Just checked Mr Google. Now about $330.
Cheers
