Wireless Rear Cameras

Post by Kappy »

I have several rear facing camera's fitted on my Sprinter van and also fitted on my big green bus.
This is the brand:
https://www.digoptions.com.au/2.4ghz-hd ... reverse-re
The monitor for these camera's is attached to the windscreen so is transferrable from vehicle to vehicle.
My question is about wireless compatibility between different brands, I've since damaged my monitor and have had a mixed experience with these dearer brands.
I see many other option available that are far more affordable all stating 2.4ghz frequency.

Brains truss would all these different cameras and monitors talk to each other?
Cheers

Very unlikely. Imagine in the city if suddenly you could see other's cameras or they could see yours.
On garage opening remotes you can get a choice of several frequencies.
Wireless can be a problem at the best of times.
Brian bought a few to put on his houseboat & was so unreliable with interference that last I heard he ran wires to them. Luckily he could do wireless or wired. Check to see if yours have wire sockets & if so, similar plugs on both camera & monitor.
I put 2 wired cameras on my houseboat. One to ensure water was coming out the telltale on the outboard & the other to get a look behind me if I was turning. 50ft extensions weren't that dear.

Even though they are the same frequency they still have to be physically paired. Much the same as all smart phones and network, can see a lot of em but can't pair.
The wireless cameras are exactly that and normally don't have wired capability.
Don't want to have to run wires through the roof lining.
Maybe just buy a cheapy and see what happens.

Kappy, that 2.4gig band must be nearly full now. Just about every wireless device uses it. We had one on the old Coaster. Worked well, except when the reverse beeping was working. Let us know how you go.

Kappy, I've been using cheap ebay wired cameras for rear view and side mirrors for over 10 years and none of them have failed during that time, but changed the towbar camera when I backed into a dirt bank and stuffed it.

I'm about to buy a quad camera system with a 10inch screen, want a camera on the rear of the trailer and sick of swapping the towbar camera to the trailer all the time, have 3 x 7inch screens at the moment which take up lots of room so a quad 10 inch screen will be much better. Decided after seeing someone else with a quad camera system set up on their MH and it worked really well, the 4 cameras views were easy to watch and having on on the back of his trailer and one on the back of his MH meant he could watch the towing gear as well as the road which gave him excellent views behind. It's only costing $265 and have found having cameras for side mirrors is much better, especially at night as there's no light reflection from the mirrors.

I run an 8 camera system, 2 sides, 2 engine bay (rear) 2 front (where the idiot will come from) 1 on rear of coach looking at the towbar and 1 on trailer rear.
I also run one on a seperate screen (on all the time, not touring) on trailer rear just for when I pass someone, I know exactly when I can pull back in.
Can also use the recorder to talk to the prick that has stolen it. And kill motor when it suits the cops. And tracking, obviously.

looks good NP, does it take an SD card to record the 4 cameras so it can be used as a record when involved in an accident?

No, but well worth looking for one that does record, the dash cam records and anyone hitting you in the back by law is at fault I believe.

Not always. Search Youtube for "brakecheck".
I liked the one where .... The police car turned on his flashing lights & the car in front locked up his brakes & got hit from behind by the Police!

You also have to prove you didn't pull out in front of the vehicle that hit you, long story, manged to avoid the hit but had to battle through a drugged up mob and the Police to get the whole thing dropped when I mentioned drug testing all involved ......
