Then head west to Hay, and across the Hay Plains to SA. I dunno any of the hwy numbers, just follow the signs as you go through the towns.
If that van is empty, get a bit of cheap carpet and glue it in and up the walls. That will shut it up a lot. If it hasn't got a UHF then get a little 5 watt handheld and listen to the trucks. Them fellas know what's going on. It's not a bad drive, just boring as bat sh*t on the flat straight bits.
Good luck.
Lookin at the map , is that through Goolgowie to hay I presume ...???

Yes, through Goolgowie. If you go through Narromine to miss Dubbo, check out the aviation museum. And a decent feed at the RSL too. I have driven that same route in my Winny, before that in the old Coaster and once in the little Suzuki Jimny. It's not a bad trip, just gets a bit boring.

First trip in a new banger? I wouldn't be thinking of going the Broken Hill route.
I'd be sticking to the main South Truck route as far as West Wylong & then to Hay.
Couple of those towns in SA you have back to front too.
Some take a detour that BobR will know more about to avoid a couple of hills & traffic.

I guess you mean thru Mendooran Bruce,
About 16 klms south of Coonabarabran turn left on to Mendooran rd
Thru Mendooran down the forest rd comes out at Brockelhurst just north of Dubbo.

No go zone 3 , looks like a goat track, dont want to try out the 4x4 capabilities just jet ( with SWMBO in da bus) would not make for a pleasant drive

will see that Merk GPS says and prolly follow that if it is close to my list, or punch in town by town if it is still on the square head maps

Thats the way I came south this time. But Vik is talking about going out through Narromine and missing Dubbo.
If you just follow the trucks on the main (Newell) hwy and watch the signs in the major towns, you will be fine. All the big towns are about an hour or so apart. Don't even consider driving between Narrabri and Coonabarabran between dusk and dawn though or you may finish up with a new bonnet emblem. Just sit back and enjoy the drive.

p.s. there is a really good car and bike museum called McFeeters on the southern side of Forbes, well worth a visit.

thanks all , now if only the useless qantas boarding pass thing worked on my phone I would be laughing ...

Lucky we still kept a printer and could print a paper one out , looks like one staff member at the desk (SWMBO was on hold for an hour) while the camp little leprecorn takes home $60 mill salary ... not bad
