You are as busy as us Dot. Good luck with dulux, at least you have a well known, reputable company to deal with. Enjoy the BOBs mate xxxx
Poor Shirley, not even gumboots would be enough for some of the grassy areas around here. We had over 3 inches of rain last weekend and it was the final straw as far as mud goes.
I spent the day doing follow up things, to get the house maintenance done before we can depart to go gallivanting around. Finally got the gas fitter to return my calls. He has had the flu, so he was forgiven. He will come tomorrow night to service the gas heater. It's a specialist heater job, so yesterday's plumber couldn't do it.
Sorted out a lady to collect all the books that are piling up after we have read them. She sells them online and I am unfortunately one of her best customers...a discount on my orders for returning the books in good order.
Next big job was the solar roof man. Our batteries are part of a recall and I am fed up with chasing him to get the job done. After many attempts to get him to answer the phone, we realised that his office is in the area that really suffered badly in the big floods this last weekend. He has been sent yet another email, giving him a dead line. I am over him and his precious company.
I have arranged the details for a stall at Sapphire in August at the same weekend that we usually work Gemfest in Anakie. They have changed the format totally, but we will be there as guinea pigs, so it could be a winner or a never to return. Time will tell.
All that while cooking up a huge batch of sausage and veg rolls for the freezer and a healthy slice to keep the nibbly one at bay.
The shed? well the glass didn't like being fired, so it sort of fused together, but didn't run to form the craters that I am after. I put it back for another hot time tonight, just a bit hotter for a lot longer. If it fails, it will be hooray and in the bin.
sweet dreams xxx

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
Deborah, I do own a pair of gum boots from our nomad days, did wear them last 10 days to collect mail,

Dot, definitely wouldn't be allowed to wear gum boots on a bowling green, must wear bowling shoes, flat sole, they do have bowling thongs & sandals available these days, we sometimes have barefoot bowls for folk that want to try it, they usually wear socks.
The green was very heavy & slow, when I kneeled down to measure, came up with very wet pants, we were playing on the bottom green not much higher than lake level, needless to say next measure I didn't kneel. We hadn't played for 10days so really in need of a bowls fix.

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
Shirley,
At an open day I was cleared to try bowls wearing my runners.
Totally flat sole with an internal wedge at the heel.
Tried again when we moved, but decided bowls and I are not going to be friends. Got the length about right, but not always the bias
Also it requires bending down, not a pain-free occupation for me.
Same goes with golf. I was unable to get up a complete swing due to shoulder & spinal damage. Our back fence separates us from the combination golf course & town common. More people walk dogs there than play golf! (Us included.

Dot, not watching thugby are you?
Your info about the Maori language is very interesting and thanks for sharing xxxx
Shirley, I don't think anyone could live in our area at the moment with out at least a pair of gumboots. The slush has just gone on for way too long. I am definitely over the wet weather.
Have my sister visiting, so all the usual events...clean house etc and prepare roast pork for dinner. Did pork in the slow cooker and cut off enough of the cooked fat for tonight's meal, put it in the microwave and voila yummo crackling. That was a good thing for the day.
The rest of the day went downhill fast.
Plumber/gasfitter came and serviced the heater. The starter has gone on one level, so he will order enough to do both levels at the same time. He left the heater running nicely and we were lovely and warm. After dinner, I watched the flames slowly dying. His nibs went out and swapped to the newly filled gas bottle, but the heater refused to re-ignite, like it usually does in this event. It may light tomorrow, when it is completely cold, but somehow, I think it may have done it's thing for this winter. Plumber assured us that the heater doesn't need replacing, just a few new parts. Like all things, the parts will need to ordered and prayed for. So this will be done when we return from our travels in September....bummer.
The glass in the kiln was no different from yesterday, so I have put it aside. It can have a turn in the new kiln, when it gets fixed. It works on much higher temps, but still waiting for parts. Sounds like a broken record?
I need that warm bed,
so nigh all xxx

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
Deborah fortunately we are on a slope to the lake, so the water drains away good but the ground is still very wet, our road is very poorly drained & we don't have kerbing & guttering or footpaths, the water lays along the side of the road in huge puddles till it evaporates.
Ray, when I started bowling I wore my Rebok tennis shoes, they had a flat sole & the green keeper gave me the ok to wear them, they did have a pattern on the bottom which is a no no on account of being able to hold seeds & deposit same on the grass green, once I decided to keep at it, I bought bowls shoes.

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
I had last night off because I went to sleep
Saw the bone man yesterday arvo, he saw me without a ref for my thumb but has booked me in after he gets back from his combined holiday and OS conference and also no charge
Will get the referral via GP ph consult next week and also a MRI on my R) ankle again. I am watching the BOB going down the steep winding road and I am having trouble with a bit of travel sickness
Chris Froome is going really well seeing he nearly died after the big accidents he had. The Jayco boy had a great race as well he was pipped on the line. Brian going to the vet tomorrow for his yearly blood tests. My Clayton's daughter is doing well from her eye op, so far so good. Ummmm bought a pr of jeans yesterday the same size as last time BUT ummmmm thay are a wee bit smaller than the older ones so I think I need to exchange them for the next size up. Talking of gumboots, I might have to borrow the "Old Sheep Shaggers" but not bothering with the velcro gloves just don't know where they have been.
Getting tired now so bed time and to finish the BOB final 80ks going up the biggest climb which is 30ks long wow so Goodnight everyone x
Goodnight Pet-els x

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
Keep being amused by the BOBs Dot. The scenery is certainly fabulous. xxxx
Today was more of the same. Just trying to tie up a few more loose ends before we travel off into the sunset.
I wasn't happy with the time the last gas cylinder lasted, so we did a bit more experimenting. Turned the old cylinder back on, it still has a bit of gas in it. Stove elements worked fine with old cylinder, so tried the heater and it worked fine. Stayed on all evening tonight, still on the old cylinder. Our thinking now is that the heater had been firing on all levels of flame and possibly just got over heated and used it's programmed cut off switch. As long as we have the flames, we have heat and we decided not to use it on full on heat until it gets properly fixed in September. Think that works for us.
Nothing much to tell you all. It's just been another freezing day with lots of rain, in the lair. We did see the sun for a few minutes, but not enough to get excited about.
night all xxx

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
Oh the scenery, wow. I wonder how many cars go over those sides and how many survive? Brian found another vet as a fan because he behaves so well, he had his neck shaved and they took bloods for his yearly test. Got a ripper of a headache this arvo and it continues so Iam off to bed and I may just miss the BOB 's tonight. Keep warm dry and safe everyone x

No Ray they are Boys on bikes, all of them are younger than my son. If I said Bums on bikes I would be in trouble for being a perv
