We were at Burrumbuttock last night and no problems there except for some wind and rain. Yes, you can see why these trees are called widow makers. We made sure we are not parked under any limbs. Our spot is about 800 meters from the entrance.

Re: On the banks of the Murray
Are the local yahoos a problem? Any issue leaving the van for the day on Sat/Sunday?Jon and Kay wrote:We were at Police Paddocks a few weeks ago, good spot, less than 1km of dirt road. Local Yahoos at the weekend, nice and close to Rutherglen, but not a walk

The Yahoos raced cars and motorcycles about, and lit huge fires (during a fire ban) , saying they did not have to conform to regulations because one was an Aboriginal. We survived. They meant no harm to others, but were careless and could have run over innocent people. The most senior guy was only 25yo , had adhd, and already suffered a small heart attack. They continued anti social behaviour all weekend, but knew some boundaries. I wouldn't leave my MH there unattended as I would West of there. But there are always other campers to keep a watch.:

Re: On the banks of the Murray
Just read about the tornado that went through that area Thursday night, you didn't get any of it Lesley? They say Rutherglen is extensively damaged, the local Holden dealership had a brick wall ripped down and the roof torn off. A caravan park in the path of the storm doesn't look real good at all, lots of damaged vans. Apparently a motorhome was tipped over in the storm and the couple inside had to be airlifted to a Melbourne hospital.

If It's that badly damaged, maybe we should stay away to give them a chance to clean up, but Easter time would be the big money spinner for them so.....
Maybe wait to see what you think the extent of the damage is Lesley and Erich, before we make definite plans to go through that way.

Re: On the banks of the Murray
We didn't arrive here till yesterday morning. Didn't see evidence of any damage on the way but we came from Howlong direction. Certainly no damage at the camp ground. The big branch down in front of our van has been there a while as the leaves are dead. Will probably venture into town today or tomorrow and report back. No sign of yobbos on Friday night so that's a good sign.

The Howlong campsite is not far away, with added advantage of toilets and water at the Lions Park next door, and a better beach for access to the river for swimming (only mud banks at Police Paddocks).

Yes, Chuck. We plan to leave on Tuesday morning but we have such a good spot here we might change our minds
Went in to Rutherglen this morning as Erich wanted to give the new lithium auxiliary battery in the LC a test out (well it was a good excuse!). Did a wine tasting at Warrabilla (about 13km west of town on the Murray Valley Highway) and purchased some bottles, as you do. Had a nice lunch at Taste on Main Street (recommended by the lady at the winery), bought some frozen ready to cook pies at Parker Pies and a few groceries at the IGA. Now back at camp awaiting the arrival of Kay and Bruce (1/2 hour later than the ETA Kay texted during lunch). Fortunately a few campers have departed today so there are at least 3 good level sites vacant along the river. If we don't see you here we will catch up at Gentle Annie.

Re: On the banks of the Murray
Oh forgot the update about conditions in Rutherglen after the storms. Once again we saw no damage whatsoever. The lady at the Info Centre said there were some trees down. While at Warrabilla, someone mentioned that the Jones Winery had been unroofed but they moved their tastings to another building. So, all-in-all, I think things here are not too bad and I'm sure all the local businesses would appreciate the cash flow. Warrabilla haven't had a vintage for 3 years we were told because of rain at the wrong time. However, they will have a bumper harvest this year.

Arrived here & surprise, surprise, who should be here but, yes , Lesley & Erich
Only thing I have noted in the negative here is all the gum trees which like to drop limbs & not lots of areas to get sunlight ALL day for the panels.Great to be able to get to the river water to use for showers, washing up, washing etc etc.
