What a great TOOL
What a great tool this would have been on old style tyres. How many of you remember this tool.

Used it quite often on the old rag tyres [on taxis] back in the 50/60's. No good on Steels, but some still in use on truck tyres.

There wouldn't be many speedway racers that didn't have one of those in the toolbox, even today.

Often coped that job on the truck tyres, they were marked on the case "regrooveable" and you marked off each time you did it to avoid exposing the case.
Might have done a similar thing with the angle grinder a few times actually, one of those things would have been great in my younger yrs

I reckon a lemon zester would produce prettier grooves…
Pretty basic tread pattern he’s cutting.
Where are the water sipes?
… and 4/6 is a steep price for such a simple piece of manufacturing. That translates to a whole 45c!!

The truck ones were 240v through a transformer to what ever voltage to make the "V" blade glow cherry red .... manual adjustment to get the colour ring, yellow-red the "V"tip didn't last long, dull red and it wouldn't cut .... the rubber smoke was something else, not that sweet smell of someone's hard earned $$ going up in smoke when they were doing a burnout at the drags, more the thick rubber coating the lungs type smoke .....
