Dot, the only time I use powdered milk is to make white Christmas. I can't remember even making that this century! Er, been a while, I reckon. I remember thinking that this ingredient was expensive at the time, wondering how it compares now, in price and quality? xxxx
The lair is a happy place tonight. I took the creation out of the kiln, scrubbed it up, sanded a multitude of rough edges and installed it in pride of place. I do not expect that this will appeal to many, but it was made to fill a void, where the new heater is shorter and the space was very vacant. These sculptures are what I really enjoy doing, but they don't seem to sell too fast. Only sold one.
This is the start of the journey, First time in kiln
This is the finished work of heart.
The oranges are really deepish reds and the legs are a bit spindly-er than planned, but that's glass and how it misbehaves.
Our daughter and sprog are staying tonight and it's lovely to have some quiet time with just the two of them.

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
What a change from earlier today 10 deg now feels like a frost. Gman is asleep on his chair and so is Brian. The mechanic person came this arvo to sort the flicking indicator that they fixed a few weeks ago and this time the bulb was blown
so replaced that and now we see. BOB are back on stage 11. Re the powdered milk Q I think I may give it a miss, was thinking of it for when travelling and just for cooking like custard and such or did my friend do it wrong, she just put a spoonful of the powder into the cup of tea. yuck. HTFFBO is heading to lightening ridge for a visit to a friend. Time for me now to have a chocolate G bought me some lindor so I'm going to be a piggy. Goodnight everyone x
Goodnight Macca x

Dottie,
We carry half a dozen 1 litre long life milk cartons. No refrigeration needed until you open the carton. Tastes the same as fresh milk, and easier to store.
Deb,
Very impressed with your dribbly glass art!

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
Dot, I am with Ray on the long life milk. It tastes like milk, who would have guessed that? This construction looks like a lily for sure. It's the first one that this has happened to, just a happy thing methinks. xxxx
Thanks Ray, I love the way the colours went totally crazy and it looks so happy.
Had a busy day with daughter and granddaughter. Daughter gave us both computer lessons on having split screens and seeing two emails at once. It was a lot to take in and not sure that I have it quite right yet.
At the end of today, our daughter left with two garbage bags full of 7 pairs of my Doc Martin boots. Arthritis has stopped me from still wearing them and apparently vintage boots are in high fashion at the moment. She is thrilled to have some "new" boots and I love that there is a bit more room for my glass stuff. Yes, I did have a different pair for every day of the week and a spare for wet weather. I was very surprised that she is able to wear them, but I did wear thick woollen socks with them, obviously she wont be doing that. She works in a much warmer environment than I did. My docs were always bought on sale, so none of them would have cost anywhere near today's prices.

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
We have used that UHT the whole time travelling, Bruce full cream and me light. He still uses the Devondale UHT at home as cheaper. Dot EVEN HAD UHT custard for you know who! Only one catastrophy, pulled up in the middle of nowhere in the Kimberleys, into van for lunch, something running out from under seat! Guess who had to clean up a mess from a burst custard- not me.

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
Yep we also use the carton milk mainly for puddings but I thought the powdered milk would be lighter and so I put the correct amount into vaccume bags and that would make 1 lit at a time and easier and lighter than the packet milk to store. Giess I will have to give it a go with making the custard or creamed rice to see if I keep or chuck out. Macca I would have thought You know who would have licked the custard up off the floor knowing how clean it would be.
. 16 degs right now so off outside to get some VitD.

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
Good to see you are socialising Dot. Way too cold at night here for dinner guests (9 degrees at the moment, been that all evening). xxxx
Did a few upstairs things and after lunch spent time in my shed. I won a blower vac thingy at a jayco raffle a few weeks ago, so while I watched the kiln heat up, I constructed the thing. It's one big blower/vac. I was hoping to use it in my shed to vac the bits of glass up off the floor , but there isn't enough room to swing that big lump around, so now that it has been built and made usable, he can have it. I have a new bowl in the kiln for it's first fuse, will be finished in a couple of days....maybe.

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
Dot, which gravel pit are you staying in tonight? xxxx
Well done Shirley, hope the other ladies did their share too
Just for a bit of show n tell. This is what I put in the kiln last night
Very happy to find this today. Then I turned it over, only to find that the glass has stuck to the kiln fabric and bits of the fabric were embedded into the glass.
After an hours work, it looked like this It's now back in the kiln, on top of a thin layer of crushed clear glass to stretch out a bit. It's a bit thick at the moment and will only spread until it reaches 6mm which is the thickness that glass likes to be.
The rest of the excitement for the day? A quick trip to the GP for renewal of scripts and tetanus injections. The injections weren't planned, but doc says there has been enough cases lately for them to be getting reminders. Also a quick trip to chemist to have some of those scripts dispensed and drop into woolies for eggs. Nobody can say our days are boring!
