Well installers turned up today, was a bit of a joke. first the racking would not fit our roof profile. even though I asked the site inspection guy to go on the roof when he was here.
Then the Victron stuff they got out diid not fit in the switchboard I had provided, had to show them how to fit the 3 inverters and solar reg iside the box.
Starting to wonder if they had doae any 3 phase systems ?
Went inside for a bit and when I came back the 6 battery cables were different lengths, said "different resistance" and was told, well I thought about it and as each inverter will be doing its own thing on each phase it will not be a problem !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bit my tongue, ordered some 70mm cable, guess what will be changed out as soon as they are finished ?
Then told me they will be in Melbourne for next week, will finish system sometime !
If it wasn't for the knee replacement I should have done myself !!!!

Re: Solar 3 phase system install
I'm assuming it's a 48v system, all three inverters have to run off the one battery pack and depending whether you are running single phase off each inverter into its own section of the house wiring, the inverters will run at different battery demand levels, but if it's just 3 phase, they will all run exactly the same .... certainly sounds like they are not very experience in what they are trying to set up.

Re: Solar 3 phase system install
3 phase system throught the whole place, including to house switchboard, even elec oven and stovetop are on different phases. We also have a commercial LPG oven/range in the entertainment area, so if the elec oven demand is too much can use that. Other than that, apart from a few pieces of equipment like quillotene is basically single phase, spread over the 3 phases. Not grid connected at this stage, I do have a brainy sparky on tap who could not do this system for this price, but is willing to see if we can corrupt it to grid connect if I decide to.
So just a changeover switch, grid or off grid system to feed everything.
I believe we have sufficient power for the 2 of us, with a simple switch to the grid for times of extreme usage. The only reason I would bother with grid connect is to get a trickle of money to cover the service fee, that would be sweet justice I think. I Qld poles and wires are still owned by anna so no avoiding the service charge.
Battery is 32 x 200 Ah Winston, giving 400 Ah at 48 volt. This pack should outlast me.
Guy coming to look at VP next week, I feel all that double clutching may be too much for my left knee replacement

As in selling it, or converting it to 8 sp auto or one of the Allison electric transmissions that give you something like 60 different engine/electric ratios to give the performance and economy depending on how heavy the right foot getsBusman wrote: ↑Mon Oct 23, 2023 6:42 pm 3 phase system throught the whole place, including to house switchboard, even elec oven and stovetop are on different phases. you'd end up with the ultimate motorhome power plant, recharge from solar or plug in or run on fuel and regen battery capacity to reduce brake servicing and overheat problems along with far cheaper fuel bills ... all in a fully automatic gearbox, no more clutch and gear changes ....

Done 4 years on her to get to this stage T1, I don't have enough left in me to do anything else, will hire or downsize if we want to go somewhere. Anyway he might not buy her, but was keen enough to drive from perth !

150 K is price on her, if I spend lots of time after vintage would be looking for closer to 200 but 150 will do for now, he is happy with that.

Re: Solar 3 phase system install
Turned out to be a serial looker, gave them 3 days of my time and at the end of the third day they transferred 10K deposit, said they were moving in next day, and could only get 5K a day from their banks. Thought about it overnight and decided that was not acceptable but when they arrived they had changed mind and wanted deposit back. Said they woul have left some on the table for my trouble but was so disgusted just wanted to see the last of them.Should have been alerted when they told me about all the buses they had looked at on the way over.
Seems wife was going along with hubbie bus dream but always found something wrong so did not buy. As soon as they could not find anything wrong with VP (apart from being too complex) and he put a deposit on, she took him back to motel room and got that decision reversed. Would have been good to be a fly on the wall to see what she did to get his mind change !!!!!!!!

Re: Solar 3 phase system install
Well getting happier with the system, we are using a Heltec balancer and it is able to keep any cell disparity to about 10 Mv, while putting 100 amps into the battery, uses a capitator system so no outside power required. Took a bit of juggling to get the slower cells to catch up but all in line now. Tonight will be first on battery power so it will be interesting to see how much we use of the 20 Kw available. Only concern is how much is used by the three inverters and the solar regulator overnight,
