Nah, but the plastic cases around each cell do break and let all the electrolyte boil away if they have been mistreated too many times, and not compressed and strapped properly to stop the cases from bulging .... same goes for the aluminium cased cells, but they need electrical insulting from each other and any grounded metal parts will allowing air or coolant to circulate as well ..... heat build up is their nemesis
As far as drop in lithium batteries, all bets are off. No cooling inside that plastic case and I doubt the cells are not compressed and strapped, then a heating element in the form of a battery management system is enclosed in the same plastic box ... odds on, that is the least type of battery damage that will occur ........
