It could be that He just wore the wrong tee shirt when he visited the SA road authority. On second thought, any of those tee shirts* would have put the moxa on the deal.

Hmmm....... Do you think me wearing the "Allergic to stupid people" and then sneezing when I got to the counter could have been anything to do with it?
Unfortunately, I used the story about Brian being mid state SA and out of phone or internet contact, that killed the possibility of signing his name in the missing spot, the first young lady didn't even notice it wasn't signed, she just wanted a rent receipt, the second young lady checked with the manager and confirmed a caravan park receipt was good enough. The following day, neither of those two young ladies were available at the service window, otherwise I would have bluffed my way through, but this older lady was going to block every possible avenue, when I said the manager had ok'ed a caravan receipt the day before, she replied that it wasn't suitable for a client number or licence transfer.... when I asked what the difference was regarding a vehicle name transfer, as it was ok with a caravan park receipt, you could see the wheels ever so slowly turning trying to think of a reply that would justify her position on not accepting the caravan receipt. it became obvious at that point I was up against a brick wall and a battle of wits with an unarmed counter jumper wasn't going to gain anything, so I walked away.

Even this forum was against me last night, wouldn't let me sign in, no would it send me a new password, but fortunately, it accepted the password tonight.

Last night we stayed on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River near Maude, about half way between Hay and Balranald, top spot. The pit toilet is built on a concrete slab, the force of the water in the last floods combined with the soft wet ground resulted in the toilet now being on a lean, slab and all  Enjoyed a slow cooked venison stew that bubbled away while we were driving, this travelling certainly is hard to take 8-)

Tonight we are at a sports ground camp in Ariah Park, near Temora, a $10 donation buys a good shower and power, so this last recharge should get us home on Sunday, shitte it's cold here though. Going to try for an overnight stop at Oallen Ford near Nerriga, then it's just a 2hr trip home on Sunday.

Margaret has got the travel bug bad, Monday back at work with the post holiday blues isn't going to be a good time for someone to upset her, they may need bandaids to reattach their head

Well lets hope you make it home in one piece so you can put it apart to fix your problem?

lots of things to fix and change after this trip, it has been a really good shake down trip for us. It will be interesting to see how much damage was done to the alternator, it sort of works when it feels like it, it will just start to charge, sometimes after a few hrs driving, then on a restart there is no garuntee it will still be working. It came back to life around Hay, died again when we stopped for fuel at Griffith, then started again 5mins befor we pulled up here, no real explanation of what makes it come back to life, but at least the overheating is cured now we've reduced the fan belt slippage.

Does not that intermittent fault signal a possible short, broken wire, burnt out fail do to overload, or loose connection?

I had a similar fault when I bought my bus. Corroded connections everywhere I looked in the engine bay.
The 'sense' wire is the main one. Replaced it with new wire & terminals & fixed the problem.
T1 does your alternator have internal regulator or external one? If external does it have 5 wires?

Ooops sorry Terry I went off to bed early last night and forgot to take the secret block device off so you could back get in again.  As long as you are happy little campers then all is fine with the world. Just make sure you have a nice meal on the table and a few bottles of that Durif stuff ready for when Margaret gets home on Monday evening  Hi Crunchy xx

Well, home at last. arrived home around 4:30pm Sunday night, invited friends around for a slap up dinner of chicken wing bits and potato chips and a few drinks to soften the impact. A list as long as your arm of jobs to do on that day that doesn't start with Y, tomorrow ;)
The problem with the alternator coincides with the exhaust brake not to function, it could still be slipping belt syndrome as the exhauster to create the vacuum for exhaust brake operation is driven from the rear of the alternator, but it could also be a wiring harness issue, that should be fun to find. I seem to remember Craig had a similar problem with intermittent exhaust brake function in his Mazda, I wonder if he found the cause and if this could be a similar problem.

The trip to Oallen Ford was "interesting" after a rather late leave from Ariah Park we took as many back roads as possible to avoid the highways, we have developed a loathing f them. We found a zig zag path from Gunning to Oallen Ford via Collector and Tarago, a few wrong turns thrown in meant we arrived after dark. It appears I chose an incorrect track to the ideal camping spot, after a few deep puddle crossings and crawls over river sand mounds we ended up we arrived on a very deeply gouged but relatively level rock platform with all the hollowed out bits full of water. A quick look in either direction from there involved a rather deep looking pool. Out on foot with the torch revelled the river being situated the other side of these pools, we were in the wash away created by last nights river surge  The Mazda and trailer fitted neatly between the extremities of the wash away and the trailer wheels followed the gouges in the rock so the 50 point turn and Margaret’s "We're going to die" out bursts were just making things worse. Then Margaret suggested I turn the headlights back on...... I suggested it was maybe better I didn’t (so she couldn't see) so, here, shine the torch and tell me when you can see the trailer out your window. At least that got the hysterical screams outside, some forceful application of power turned the tailer into a bulldozer till we came across a solid tree, 50 more shunts back and forward and we were headed back up the track we came in on. Found the ideal spot, mat and awning out, chairs, choofer blazing and a full glass of red wine within 20 mins of "we're going to die" and calm again returned to the camp site  A walk in the morning light to the scene of the crime confirmed it was a correct choice not to turn the headlights back on till we were out of there, Margaret suggested it was quite as bad as she had imagined, the picture in her head must have been a nasty one
Driving through Nowra and Shoalhaven Heads and the view from Two figs winery revealed just how much rain had fallen while we were away, apparently 100mm in 24hrs just to top it off. Everything is as green as could be, such a vast difference to the dead as could be through South Australia and southern Victoria/ NSW border areas.

It has been a great 4 weeks away, met for the first time and renewed friendships with a great group of people, it has made us even more hungry for this to be a permanent life style change, thankyou everyone who helped to make this a great 4 week holiday.

1) That's easy Terry. Just pour some water in at the high point of the loom and watch to see where the sparks come from.

2) I see you do not quite grasp the whole beneficial concept of travel achievement with the ultimate satisfaction of overcoming adversity and the sense of accomplishment in the relief of arriving alive at the end of the day. 8-)

dawg (who wonders if T1 has been informed about a new technology called GPS?)
