TV Satellite systems

Post by dream4red »

Na, loud marching bands on full pelt, followed by playschool, is the very best ignoramous deterrent!

On the satellite topic, we just tried an old foxtel dish and it worked great at home (on the van) but as soon as we parked in the vanpark, we faced South and were surrounded by bloody great big trees....I am assumiong this is not a good mix for the dish to actually work!
Anyone had similar experiences?

Yes that is one & probably the only major drawback of satellite reception.
TV reception seems to be able to go around (or though?) a certain amount of trees & other things but satellite needs an uninterrupted view.
There is one free camping spot near Berri & it's funny watching each new arrival trying to find a spot that has sun for solar & a clear view of the Northern sky for satellite.
It's gotta be one of the shadiest camping areas I've seen.
That is one benefit of having a portable dish I guess?

I've got an auto Sat dish, yes you need a clear view of the northern skys for Optus C1 & D3, I use an iPhone APP to assist, on a few occasions when have no choice of sites we get into areas where the sky is not clear.

I still switch on to see if it can peek thru the trees and 8 out of 10 it does, although subject to wind and rain interference. Naturally a giant gum 12 foot diameter at base does not help.

The new SAT finders are a great invention for manually finding a satellite but fortunately I don't need one.

Optus made some changes to the C1 D3 transponders on the 1st November 2012 and that stuffed the auto dish until I got some instructions on how to reprogram the dish.

Oh for the days of a bent coat hanger aerial.

TV Satellite systems

I have an app called Satfinder on my Galaxy phone.
Set it Optus C1, D1 , turn on the GPS, when it locates itself I just lay the phone on the lnb arm and set it up till every thing is doinking ( sound )
Saved my self and a few others much drama when away last year.
With the LNB as long as it's stamped / marked 10.70 it will work with the new sat .

Nini I think the Aurora is turned off or will be shortly from what I heard. Apparently a lot of the channels are the same as on Vast. I may be wrong though. I'll see if I can find out more info.

We have always had trouble with the way the whole system is set up

We have DVD player a sat box and a digital tv box connected to two tv's, the tv at the front is analog with the set top digital box the tv at the back is digital ready............any suggestions on how they all should be connected, so that they all work

We've all been there, toss in a DVD and media player and away we go in to the wired world of mayhem.

There are many questions to ask to establish what you've got and how their connected.

In basic term keep it simple.

I tried to split this bit off the original topic and put it where it belonged but I think I stuffed up, sorry about the title and now it's stuck
