Thought for Today

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

T1,
No, I’m saying quite the opposite! 🤬
There are equal opportunities for crime/corruption in both the government and private sectors.
Viz:
1. Victorian Government and the CFMEU.
The gummint ‘suddenly discovered’ that they were paying ‘consultancy fees’ to bikie crooks. But it took the media to tell them. The gummint was quite happy to let sleeping dogs lie.
2. Banks & superannuation funds charging financial advisory fees to dead people. But it took… well, see above.
There’s plenty more examples if you care to dig into the newspaper archives, and it’s not just historical.
Just that other examples have not yet become public.

t was just a dig at you saying it was part of the Trump era, I was just saying it's always been the case, politics is just one form of organised crime that to a degree is legalised .... well, until they get caught with their hands in the cooky jar.

Insurance would be the biggest rort of the modern age, they even make used car salesman look like a fine and honourable profession

Jon,
The problem is that they NEVER LEARN!
Every northern winter we have reports of highway pile-ups involving multiple vehicles — often around 100 — cars and trucks.
They can’t blame the snow. It happens in ordinary wet weather as well.
Tropical and sub-tropical Australia has torrential rain storms as well, but we don’t have pile-ups like that in your video.

😳T1,
I’m shocked! Do you mean to say that being a used car salesmen is NOT an honourable profession? 🫢

Fortunately, the trucking community over here stay in contact with each other via the CB radio, so they know what's ahead ..... Having experienced the wheel lock up on icy roads, fortunately in a car and I was travelling slowly enough to get out and guide it off the road rather than into the Mercedes coming the other way, there is nothing you can do once the tyres no longer grip the road surface.

When my uncle retired from the police force as a senior detective inspector, he started his own private investigations company. One client was unfortunately the last car in a 13 car pile-up over Mt Victoria, and had no 3rd part insurance ... even though he had minimal to no damage to the front of his vehicle, Aust insurance law says he is responsible for all 13 vehicles as he was the last in line ..... he got him off because the car he hit had turned all the lights off in the hope someone would hit him, he was found to be culpably negligent casing the accident between that vehicle and the one his client was driving .... the take away lesson from that, never drive a vehicle on the road without 3rd party insurance ... and that is not the insurance you have to pay with your rego, that is 3rd part person insurance, not 3rd party property insurance .....

Keep in mind, they are in an even worse pay position than Aussie truck drivers, if they fail to deliver on time, they don't get paid in a lot of cases, in most cases they are paid very little per mile travelled
How Much Do Truck Drivers Make Per Mile? The average truck driver's pay per mile ranges from $0.40 to $0.50, depending on experience and type of freight. Truck drivers are typically compensated through cents per mile driven, as opposed to traditional hourly pay rates.16 Jan 2025

In Australia, long haul truck drivers are paid a minimum basic pay plus per km driven, the bigger the rig or specialised ability or risk is involved, the better the money. Carting swinging meat in a freezer road train or B triple pays better than a petrol tanker driver in some cases, both are very specialised driving techniques, but even driving grain trucks at harvest can pay well .... I certainly wouldn't want to be a truck driver in the US, scary enough over here .....

T1,
Sounds like a good argument for a Truckers Union.
