Shrinkflation strikes again!

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Shrinkflation strikes again!

Post by Greynomad »

Brut deodorant has been unavailable in larger towns and cities for about 9~12 months.
Smaller rural/outback shops have had limited supplies, probably due to lower turnover.
When I noticed the lack of availability locally, I stocked up on our last outback foray.
The one on the left is the last of that batch.
It’s now back on local supermarket shelves — but the new ones (on the right) are 33.3% SMALLER!!! 🤬
To add insult to injury, they are 20c dearer than the old ones! 🤬🤬🤬
I suspect the marketing smartar$es at PharmaCare Laboratories figured that their Loyal Customers would run out, try some others, and gratefully welcome the return of their favourite product no matter what.
The strategy worked. Although I’m not happy about the shrinkflation.

BTW. The back label no longer proclaims “Proudly Australian owned and made.” Or that it contains Rosemary extract.
Although it still smells the same, I’m guessing the natural Rosemary extract has been replaced by a synthetic (read: ‘cheaper’) equivalent. 😡

It's unfortunate that shrinkflation has to exist. So many good things and tasty treats have gone by the wayside now.
I still remember how big the old Weston's Wagon Wheel used to be, and also the Milky Bar. Both are still about but not a shadow of their former themselves.
And Solvol, can't buy a bar of that anymore, just a squirt bottle.
Cheers

Dave,
I had a leftover from my working days: a tub of Solvol-like paste called “Ditto”. It was given to me by a printer, who said it was the only thing that could remove printer’s ink from his (and my, after a plant visit) hands.
It was great for removing grease as well as assorted other grubby stuff. However, I used the last scrapings about 6 months ago, and couldn’t replace it.
I found a similar product at the Hammer Shop, called “The Pink Stuff”, which is almost as good.
Of course, the interweb has gazillions of recipes to DIY.
Here’s just one:

After you do the special shopping trip to buy the ingredients, and then use a teaspoon of each, it’s probably cheaper to buy a tub at the Hammer Shop…

You can often find the original sized Wagon Wheel at country bakeries, a bit like a pie back when we were kids, the price has gone up some what ...... If they still sold the original size "Westerns Wagon Wheel" at the check out, how many of them do you think they'd sell at between $5 and $7.50 a pop?

… at least Brut went up by “only” 20c.
Clever. No-one is likely to make a big scene at the checkout over 20c. And there’s nothing to be done about the smaller packaging — except write a Letter of Complaint to the manufacturer.
Which will get you precisely nowhere.

I’ve invented a thought-controlled air freshener.
Not as crazy as it sounds.
It makes scents when you think about it.
