Finally with much cursing and a few more bruises I managed to get the heater tank out from under the motorhome...
Looks like the leak is from where the pipe comes out of the tank... the putty stuff has moved from being attached to unattached.
I had to cut the black rubber hose, I couldn't get a spanner to the clamps
Any ideas on a remedy...to stop the leak ,???
I will try with this tank... but if I can't I'll put a new one on.

Needs a new "O" ring either side of the fitting ........ getting the fitting and washer back out can be tricky, but a length of wire threaded through from the hole to the filler, the "O" ring and washer and outlet threads down the wire from the top, pull that through the hole, then the "O" ring washer and nut threaded on from the outside.

Bernie does that tank have a pickup tube inside the tank?
It's hard to see it. Looks like a new tank doesn't have an outlet until you drill & install it?
I'm guessing you can't rotate a new one & put it back in as the fill place won't be where you want it?
