Re: Our "New to Us" Winnie
Just returned home with the trailer and .... ummm ...... actually having the MG4 here and the trailer here ..... and running the tape over each ...... umm ..... if I take mobility scooter cage off the front, remove all the railing and put it outside the trailer floor area, and remove the wheel chocks and add about 700mm of extension up each side ...... and a good coating of vasoline on the inner trailer guards ..... it'll fit
The measurements Pickles put up for the trailer included the mobility scooter box, the width of the track on the MG4 fits on the trailer, the body is another 750mm extra each side ......
Needless to say, an MG4 isn't as small as they look
The Jimny would fit front to back without modification, including the bullbar and winch, and enough room to walk around when it was on the trailer .....
Hmmmm..... and I don't have a big angle grinder, or a welder, or a spare week to do it ......
8:45am at the eye hospital for the cataract job, so that is at least Monday crossed off .... that leaves 12 days before I have to be in Sydney ...... ummm ..... either I need a hat big enough for a few rabbits, or Margaret will have to drive the MG4 over and I do the trailer mods over there ....... I'll go online and look for big hats ....

Please, please don't do a Hyundai Taggerty trick on the brand new MG.

Jon,
Have faith!
T1 has it all mapped out.
WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG?

Re: Our "New to Us" Winnie
Maybe you should have just resurrected Jim the Junior Jeep. I didn't think there was too much wrong with him. Then you wouldn't have to massacre the trailer, just drive him on.
Cheers

I miss JtJJ!
Wanna get an updated 5-door version, (need to accommodate two greyhounds) but SWMBO is happy with the Supercar (Turbocharged 1.1 litre 3 cylinder Suzuki Baleno).
First car we’ve owned with some decent acceleration!

Re: Our "New to Us" Winnie
Speaking of incredible acceleration for the money the MG4 is hard to match ..... and so far has cost nothing in fuel
Jim requires quite a bit of work, the roof lining replaced, that means a major strip out inside, the ignition key/remote replaced, needs to go to a specialist locksmith for that, the left hand rear window replaced, shattered in the fire and that is what damaged the roof lining, the left hand tail light replaced because it is melted, the left hand rear wheel guard strapped and resprayed along with the rear bumper .... and of course, the original problem, the auto transmission rebuilt ..... so, not an easy fix to return it to the road, then we need to go through the dramas of getting it registered .... We no longer have any rego papers, so we don't have proof of ownership or the rego papers signed over to us ....... None of those things are insurmountable, but all time consuming.
As far as reselling the trailer, I paid way too much for it, so I'd never get that back, and now I no longer have the money to get the new one made ..... still thinking on what the next move is as far as that goes.
We bought the MG 4 because it will meet a number of objectives, cheap to run .... free a lot of the time, can act as a large storage battery when we have a lot of solar or if we have no solar for a long period .... we can drive it into a town and buy supplies as well as fill the battery to bring it back to the Winnie ...... and hopefully provide the back up battery power to avoid ever having to go into a caravan park again ..... or at least a low priced one for the one or camp ground if absolutely needed.

Re: Our "New to Us" Winnie
Terry I have a couple of questions for you.
Is the trailer axle round or square?
Do you know what size axle?
Do you have a 'rough' idea on how much more distance you need between the mudguards on it to clear your MG by about 5" each side?
Does it look like you could undo the "U" bolts on the axle or are they rusted & rock solid?
It has electric brakes? Yes?
