What weight are you looking to get the trailer registered to carry Bernie? Up to 2,000kg total weight, trailer and all, you can use over-ride brakes only, up to 2400kg you also must have break away brakes fitted ...... this why so many car trailers are load limited to 1,990 kg, so the don't have to have a break-away brakes.
That brake controller near the driver's hand is great for when the trailer is sick of all the dust and wants to pull in front of the tow vehicle .... a quick jab on the trailer brake lever helps get the trailers attention and it decides to stay behind
Dual axle trailers are shockers for this caper .... single axle trailers aren't quite as bad .... unless it's a muddy, slippery road ..... the blue "workshop" trailer we bought off Homeless (Brian) had two attempts at overtaking on one short piece of moving mud road ..... first to the right, then to the left ..... all at around 20km/h max.....the Mazda was heavy enough to stay semi straight (lock to lock rally style driving) and the trailer caved the bumper bar in both sides as it tried to jack knife each time ... If Brian hadn't had the trailer drawbar reinforce after a previous incident, it would have snapped it off for sure .....
I will probably have to change the mega $$ trailer to electric brakes so I can add a break away system, not sure if you can do that with hydraulic over-ride brakes more Google searching when I can see better
