FE drag car running Mod Emp
Holden grey motor, Canadian Block, bored out and high top cut away pistons, number hawk push rods, the ones with springs, cut to size, Ported and polished Head with Bedford truck valves. Crank and rods balanced and braced, alloy cam gear.
It spun to 65000 RPM but never got past the pits many times,
Running MP you had to use the genuine diff, we always took 2 to a meet, as they wouldn't take a drop the clutch take off and blew to bits.
Finally found a steel centre from a Clark Forklift, which did last with skinny tyres on the back, then got married and that stopped it all.
Before that, making Hotrods from whatever I could find,
Best street rod was a Ford Anglia Rag top with 186S red motor and Holden running gear under it, a Real wolf in Sheep's clothing,

Mine was a 4-door BMC Mini 850.
Only mod I made was some experimental artgum rubber tyres: 6” treads replaced the factory fitted 4” wide ones.
Provided by a local tyre dealer who was doing real-life testing for the manufacturer. Had to drop in every fortnight for wear check etc. Also had to sign a NDA before fitting.
Insane road grip, but wore like there was no tomorrow.
Manufacturer decided to change the formulation for public release.
Later paid actual money to have the same tyres fitted to my Morris 1500 Nomad. Excellent grip and reasonable wear rate.
Made the 1500 a fun drive, but couldn’t fling it about like the Mini. 😢
Regards & God bless,
Ray

Now my enjoyment before Carol was a 1959 FC Holden,
Bored out to 3 and 3/16th I think from memory as far as you could safely go.
Big bearing blocks as Ron said ..35/75 (spelling) Waggot cam and alloy timing wheel, lumpy as idled at aroumd 12 hundred to14 hundred RPM. I had tripple SU's for a bit but had trouble tuning them so went back to twin Strommies...Extractors of cause and thru a Lukie muffler...Also had lightened rockers and they were polished and double valve springs...It was a stage four head. Ported and polished...big valves...push rods also polished...bonus of where I worked at the time. Fly wheel also lightened as Jon...4 speed MG gearbox...wide wheels and radial tyres.
Tramp rods and lowed 2"...It had all the chrome removed except the headlight surounds and also the tail lights. and the grill. I has the front seat from a Simca bench seat but with two backs that folded down I used to camp in it.
It was painted sky blue,,,very unasuming...The engine was painted green and everthing that could be chromed was...Mate at chrome plateing factory..another bonus..
It went like the clappers,,,

NOW back to the thread...I've decided to go over ride brakeing for the car trailer that way I can also use it with my Ute to pick up long stuff thst we may need from time to time.
Bernie.
PS any spelling mistakes are mine

Waggot was the man, ever see one of these:
holden-fx-48-215-engine-bay.jpg
One of 9 ever made by Waggott Engineering, a twin cam head for the grey ghost. In the bottom end there was a full girdle main brg that even surpassed the Waggott 7 brg main mod. The brg girdle made the bottom end and block so rigid, this meant the brgs and forged steel crank lasted more than a week.

I thought my slant 6 was fragile, there things had to maintained nearly as frequently as a top fuel dragster

When the twin cam head came out to put on top of the NP block out of the first EH 179 engines, that was the last of the Waggott Grey Ghost engines as far as competition, the moved to the collector's garages.

The Blue motor 3.3 block and alloy head was the death of the twin cam 192 red motor, add a turbo and the 308 didn't stand much of chance.

Those were the days, working nights and weekends of these street beasts at the Golden Fleece 24 hr servo in Figtree ..... I was all of 18 yrs old at that stage, but had quite a reputation by then, but once I had ACEIS Automotive some 15 yrs later, I got to build and work on some incredible machines ........ The days when you only got booked, they didn't crush your car because it didn't meet road legal requirements .....

Very good move Bernie going to over ride. If it's only 2000kg or less there is no point going overboard.
Maybe consider cleaning up & giving a lick of paint & flogging the axle & hubs off then just pop a newby under it.
Plenty of kits available but make sure you get the bigger (Ford) bearings. Do you know what rims you have now?
Go for cable, not hydraulic.
Towing that light load behind your big beast I would leave the latch over to avoid snapping towballs off on railway crossings.
Ask me how I know? If you get chatted..... just blame Carol!!

Keep in mind, if you ever have to increase the GVM of the trailer above 2,000kg, you will need the electric brakes for the break-away brakes to work, or if you went hydraulic, you'd need the booster pump so the break-away brake functions.

I'll be dancing very close to, if not over the 2,000GVM with the MG4 on the trailer, so I'll have to dodge the weight bridges till I verify if it's over weight ..... or add break-away brakes that will require the hydraulic booster pump set up installed ......

Bernie, will you get that kit you put a pic up of early in this thread? If yes, that's identical to what's on the Tilta axle.
Should be a reasonably simple changeover.

T1, we've done about 100,000 km with our Winny since we got it. Usually towing the Jimny on the Tilta trailer. We have yet to be called in for an inspection at a weighbridge. Just get the return to highway signal.
Cheers

The Jimny is 600kg lighter than the MG4. I'm not sure just how strict they are of the trailer weight when it's behind a 10 tonne motor home, they are more concerned about light weight vehicles towing overweight trailers ..... if we got nabbed, I would just take the MG off the trailer so Margaret could drive it till we were well past any weigh bridges :?

Ok we have changed our mind... sticking with the electric brakes...I have ordered a frame on electric brakes kit.
With this I can still change between motorhome or Ute.
Money paid and I have a tracking number 😁
I also bought two bearing kits, said they are for a Ford I will know more when I take the wheel off again 🤬 money back guarantee...he lives next door 😁🤔
