Dot, you got more rain than we did, and it was predicted as a certainty. It's been a hot n humid day. I want to return to SA where the humidity is non existent. Yesterday was just a shit day for you and your emotional clock was not happy. Hope you can settle down easily. xxxx

Today was so damned hot n humid that it was a tiring day all round. I had to see the eye man about having the second cataract done next Monday. All sorted, admission to hospital all sorted too.

The caravan has a slow leaking tyre. So his nibs took the while lot (van and car) to the tyre place for a 4 pm appointment. He didn't return until way after 6pm, so was too tired to take the van down the drive. The tyre man really didn't find anything so took the tyre off the rim and resealed it, hope that's all fixed now. So it sits on the street for another night. Guess that tomorrow we will be putting the van away before we do anything else.

Just one of the reasons we will be off grid in our next house. An electric vehicle can be picked up that has V2L quite cheaply these days, they will give you 2 to 3 days average household electricity consumption storage.
The average Aust household uses 18.7kwh per day, a 10kw solar system will generate, on average, 20kwh in winter and 40kwh in summer.
In winter,3 poor solar days could be recovered by 3 good solar days, or on the last day, a drive to a standard EV charger will cost under $10 to fill it up to give another 3 days of stored power .... sure, that's only around $7 worth of power per day @ 37.2c /kwh, but add the 97.79c for the connection, plus GST, it's up around $8.80 per day to have the power connected and using the average daily consumption ..... against even 2 days of storage for under $10 V $17.60 to have the power connected and supplied from the grid ..... it just doesn't make economic sense anymore to be on the grid.

Then add in all those days you actually get the electricity supplied by the sun from your solar panels ..... it isn't free energy as such, you had to buy the solar panels, but once you have them, the electrical energy they produce is at no additional cost ..... Store that in the house battery and the EV battery, then use the stored electrical energy from the EV overnight when the sun isn't shining ......

All well & good — in theory — however, we had a solar company (who did our panels) quote on a battery.
Upshot is, we would not see a full Return on Investment in our (expected) lifetimes!
Alternative recommended was a heat pump HWS, although again, RoI would be touch-&-go.
Not to mention that Rutherglen has ONE (count 'em all, ONE) public recharging station… and it's a miracle that we got that one before the turn of the next century! (One motel has a Tesla station — for its customers only.)
Not a queue situation though… when it's working.
Nearest alternative is a 100+km round-trip either to the east (Albury) or south (Wangaratta).
If you're heading west it's a 200km round-trip…
Sorta limits your range/V2L a tad.

Friends who visited a coupla weeks ago in their Nissan Leaf EV took a total of one extra hour to make the journey from Melbourne — in recharging time — and had to spend another 45 minutes recharging after they arrived, to guarantee they would reach their next charging station on the return trip! Plus, they have to carry a couple of adapter cables in the boot because of the Nissan's non-Tesla plug.

We'll stick with the poles-&-wires, and fossil fuelled vehicles thanks.

A Nissan Leaf as your example would be cherry picking the worst range and slowest charging of all the EV's you could have named ...... and it must be an old one to still have the early type 1 power socket and slow charging.
My MG4 51 is the poverty pack of the range, yet has a 300km range with still some capacity in reserve ..... they don't just stop when the guessometer says 0% capacity, they hold some in reserve, not that anyone should rely on that, but it is there.
The 50km each way to a charging station would require 8% of the battery capacity in my poverty pack MG4 51kwh battery, the V2L won't give you the last 10% at the absolute min setting, standard is 20% but could be set even higher .......

My MG451 was $32,000 new, I bought an MG4 64kwh battery model from a salvage auction for $3,867.50, granted, you couldn't drive it to a recharge station, but for an outlay of $36,000, you could have a run around vehicle that cost zero for fuel, a big solar storage battery and a system you would be proud to leave to the son and heir .....
As a bonus, when the phone rings and they tell you they can save you xx $$, you can tell them you will sign up immediately, your electricity costs nothing at the moment and I'm sure I can find something to spend those extra $$ you are offering me So much more satisfying than blowing whistle down the phone or just hanging up on them ..... to hear them get all excited that they made a sale .... a then you pull the rug out from under them

Ray, if any of your visitors ever get stuck for a charging station there is a couple behind the white pub in Yarrawonga and also a couple more at the golf club and the ski club on the main drag through Mulwala, over the bridge.

I'm a bit like you, it will take me a little bit longer to be convinced that I need to sell the fossil fuel burners that we own and replace them with some overpriced American based and /or Chinese made EV that is probably listening to every word that we are saying and reporting our comments back to home base. I don't expect that I'll ever own anything with a link to Mr Musk.

We had a subsidised Heat-Pump HWS supplied , fitted and Off Peak system removed and taken away for a total of approx $150.
I was able to set the operating times at 9:30 - 11:30am and 3:30 - 5:30pm in order to have it powered by our solar system. Works a treat.

I'm happy to share the vehicle and my driving data with MG, I don't have anything to hide ..... I hope it records my voice data when I tell Google maps when it does good and when it absolutely p*sses me off when it tells me to turn just after I've crossed the intersection .... I think Karen must hear me, because she makes sure she gives me plenty of warning after she stuffs up and as a bonus, it doesn't involve a fight with the navigator ..... Karen just takes it on the chin when she stuffs up
The guessometer is getting a lot better as well, it tells me I'll get 300kms from a full charge, I get back home after covering 260kms and there is 15% remaining in the battery, I do 150kms and it shows I have 50% left, happy with that .... I always drive the same, let the adaptive cruise control do its thing so my licence will last a bit longer, the navigator isn't in my ear about coming up too fast behind a slower car or being too close ..... and it's only caught me out once, following a car in the 50 zone, the car slowed a bit more, then swung off the road with no indicators ...... the MG took off like it had been shot in the a*se, realised I hadn't reset the cruise control from 100km/h or touched the brake at all to cancel the cruise control .... lesson learnt

I do understand what you lot are all crowing about solar power etc, but after LG has done so much damage to my trust in anything lithium, I will be happy to stay with a petrol guzzling V8 patrol as our tow vehicle and my little gutless rav 4 with a petrol motor. I do not expect to be buying a new car in the foreseeable future. What we have is not broke, so it does not need to be fixed or replaced.

We found time to drag the van down to the yard and said gutless rav 4 did a wonderful job putting the van in it's usual spot. Definitely would not try to tow the van up the steep drive with it, but the rav is ok doing some dragging around the yard on relatively level surfaces, where his patrol doesn't have the turning circle to achieve success.

I thought we were doing a big grocery shop today, but the builder turned up, ready to get started on the jetty repairs. Well his nibs was in his element, playing with power tools and doing the running and fetching. Shopping can wait. I did some more indoors things that have no real consequences except a cleaner home.

Just looked at the weather forecast Deborah, looks like we can expect rain Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Wednesday is the only dry day We finally have the fellow organised to replace the acrylic bricks in our house with glass bricks next week which were damaged in the hail storm forever ago, fingers crossed we are able to have the repair completed.
