OMG, Margaret must have nerves of steel! There is no way I could travel as you do Terry. But we do approach travel with a different mindset. On the road earlyish, find a camp by lunchtime, park up and enjoy the afternoon whilst planning the next day’s camp. I understand you have time constraints on this trip(and every other one) but I simply wouldn’t cope.

It is wonderful that you are finally out and about. Safe travels!
Cheers

  I'm with you Lesley, For a start we never drive at night, I like to see where we are going and of course I am never up at Bernie time either . Terry is a match for an old forum friend "Ozefueler" never a trip without some sort of adventure, never mechanical just misadventure and getting lost in the most unusual places. As long as you get to where you are going then that's half the fun . Steves bus was huge and he had an enclosed trailer on the back which he had his show car Ford hot rod He doesn't travel any more due to injuries he and Lorraine were T boned in their old FJ, Suffering from their injuries now and he is wheelchair bound. Stay safe and enjoy your long awaited travels.

'tanks" here---
Most GPS units can be set for use in a car, truck, bus, semi-trailer, on foot, or on a bicycle.
T-1, do you have a GPS unit that can be programmed as above?
Most are available with either wireless or cable connections for $100-$200 and are generally updated maps for road repairs, etc .

I plan to have another birthday next year.

Yes...we generally stop around lunch time...
And travel no further..
I have found the main roads are better than so-called short cuts....no stress 😬

Most of those narrow roads around that area are just for the milk tankers to get to the dairys.

But rest easy I have an idea!

If Margaret used Street View, she could see the corner a 1km before you get there. And then , she could advise.

a - "oh no"
b - "oh no, we better find some where to turn around"
c - "oh no - we should make it if your careful"

And if the road is not on street view, well.... why are you???
 no pasture for milking cows out that way, so no dairies, lots of multi trailer grain trucks and cattle trucks, and trucks clearly avoiding weigh stns
We came through St Arnaud, all was good until we turned left at a sign to a small pub, nothing more than a house really, then immediately right ...... about 500 mtrs up that road, it all turned the shitte .... in hind sight, up through Bendigo would have been a much better route, but at 16 mtrs long and the "prime mover" being 10 mtrs long, it takes a wide cross road intersection to turn around. Not enough experience towing this set up yet, to attempt a 3 point turn, mashing the front of the MG4 with the rear of the Winnie, wouldn't go down well

Looked on Google maps, Logan was the pub, next place I remember was Ingelwood, then Serpentine, then finally on the Northern Hwy.

Guided by the navigator using Google Maps on the phone that kept losing satellite connection, I'm sure there were roads that weren't a direct route from one spot to the next, so any number of farm roads could have been involved .... But we got here, no crashes, the only disaster was yet another bottle of Soy Sauce popping it's lid in the cupboard and leaking down between the two layers, then dripping out onto the lounge, that was relatively easy to clean up, and the back of the drivers seat, that will never clean up, but they need recovering anyway ..... the dodgy seat covers look barely better than the seats under them.

We head off for Jugiong soon, fuel first, then the most direct major looking road to the Hume, I've had enough of back roads for a while ..... and it looks like it will bucket down rain soon.

Yes, Google maps has lead me up the garden path more than once, so a decent GPS might be an addition soon to be purchased ..... although, research the night before on the 'puter and putting in the way points to keep us on the correct track might work better, street view for the parts that look "difficult" in a rig this awkward would help.

A big screen that I can see will help as well ;) "Ah shitte" or similar phases muttered under the breath, do nothing for the confidence that you are on the right track ..... panicked instructions on how to drive from someone who freaked out driving the Mazda 3500 with a trailer on the back as their experience with a "big rig" doesn't bode for a peaceful trip either

Much bettera run today. Left around 1:30, or 13:30 Ray time, fuelled up, only took 228ltrs and that comes out to 36.42ltrs/100kms for the leg from Murray Bridge to Echuca ..... happy with that.
From there to Wodonga down to 43.47ltr/100kms .... but still ok because there were no 30km/h sections in that leg ;)

Arrived at Jugiong around 7pm, or 19:00 Ray time, tanks have been emptied, and the MG is powering the house and doing the job just fine at the moment.
Still fairly warm inside, so no air con at the moment, but the fridge and the hot water are doing their thing .... Margaret just stepped out of the shower and said it was plenty hot enough, hopefully I haven't put the mochas on it, cause I still gotta have my shower yet

Some of those trucks running the Hume have incredible power these days, B doubles pulling away from the Winnie on the big hills .... vanishing into the distance on the two big ones either side of the Wagga turn off, I doubt they dropped much below the 100km/h .... some of them were clearly struggling a bit , I got to pass those :D but the mega power ones just put the right hand indicator on and sailed past them like it was a family sedan ... the 6cyl and V8 kind, not the 4 cyl ones
