I found what was stopping the plug socket from dropping down around the plug, it's the screw on adapter on the plug electrode that the spring resistor thing is supposed to lock onto .....apparently that didn't happen and the piece unscrewed itself off the plug top, when I pulled the coil assembly out, it dropped down and is sitting on the metal base of the plug, up against the porcelain.

I've tried a pick hook, a straight pick with Blu Tak, an extendible magnet with Blu Tak, silicon roof and gutter sealant on the magnet and the two different picks, around the mouth of the plug socket, even hot glue on the plug socket ..... that came off in the plug hole and I had to fish it out with the hooked pick ..... I've had lunch, a cup of coffee, but no further great ideas have turned up.

I'm not game to do the slot in the plug socket, because they piece might fall down through the plug hole when I try to remove the socket with the plug in it ......

I even tried one of those 6 fingered grab things where you push the plunger on the top to expand the grabber fingers out .... it grabs the plug just fine, but there isn't enough room between the plug porcelain and the hole in the head the plug is recessed into, there isn't enough room to get light, a tool and the mirror in there .... maybe when the camera turns up, it will have a set of tools that go on it, or I can make something .....

Terry, could you try a piece of copper wire. Like one strand of a 7 strand core. Not the very flexible stuff. Building wire or or the inner core of TPS. Cut a bit the right length and shape it to suit.
I realise access and vision is a problem. But you obviously can see it, to know what it is.

I can see it using the torch and a mirror and contorting at strange angles kneeling on the floor, I'd have to remove the dash to be able to from the top down .... Murphy's rules say it can't be the plug at the back to you can look down into, it must be the one in the hardest to reach position.

Any attempt to thread something through the hole (it's lying flat against the plug base, so either end is nearly touching the wall of the tunnel in the head that the plug goes into) has to be by guesswork as to where the actual hole is ..... might be easier one the camera attachment arrives next week some time ....

Hmmm...... might be the go, a piece of plastic hose wedged into the thin crevice nozzle on the Ozito hand vacuum ..... I can practice with one off the plugs that are already removed ....certainly worth a try, thank you Jon.

Yep, not sure is the Ozito will have the suction of a full blown Dyson.

Or the other way, squirt some high pressure air down around the plug to dislodge it and blow upwards.

Can you get a grease gun with a little nozzle right in there and pump grease in behind it to lift it out? The grease wouldn't do any harm if some ends up in the cylinder later.
Or glue little magnets to the fingers on the gripper thing to pick it up evenly?
