What is the meaning of the word anecdotal?supersparky wrote: ↑Wed Jul 23, 2025 4:24 pmYou might have to explain that one to us plebs that have NFI what that means Terry.
Something anecdotal has to do with anecdotes — little stories. Anecdotal evidence is based on hearsay rather than hard facts. People like to share stories about things that happened to them, or that they heard about, to make a point. That kind of talk is anecdotal: based on small, personal accounts.
Data and information: are similar but not the same. Data are raw facts or numbers that haven't been properly sorted or studied yet. They're like the building blocks of information. Information, however, is data that has been sorted, organized, or arranged in a way that may makes it helpful.
Data is not verified as fact, the more times the same anecdotal mistruth is repeated, the more it might be mistaken for fact ......
The old saying was "just because you heard it, doesn't make it true" has been raised into a whole new level these day with A I generated "stories", complete fantasies and fabrications can be repeated so many times, compared to the facts, the facts get buried and the "fake facts" become the accepted truth.
Many of the You Tube videos these days are A I generated voices, a few easy ways to tell is, A I doesn't know when to add the pause or not add a pause, nor the different use of words like live .... is it "live" or is it how you live ..... things like that .....
The problem is, A I will get better, sorting fact from fiction could become very hard to determine

Re: Thought for Today
Well actually, no. What I meant was, I always was of the opinion that the plural of anecdotal was anecdotes, or something along those lines. And the plural of data was data.
Something I think you overthink stuff Terry.
