I see that Hulk Hogan the wrestler, Bobby Bright from Bobby and Laurie, and Henry Sczeps (spl) the actor have also left the conversation in the past few days. All memorable in their own way. RIP.

They were a blues band first, can't remember their first name but before becoming black sabbath they were called "Earth".

A true band follower, well done NP. The first name is very a "Blues" band name

They had a name before earth, but can't recall it, something blues I think. The name earth was chosen to fit with the hippy era at the time as they weren't doing so great, but when dope and grog came along, so did Black Sabbath after one of the band members saw it, but couldn't say who that was and they wrote in a very out of it state from then on and found success with some incredibly good music.

If you asked me back in the mid 1970s could have told you, followed every bands life that interested me, to find ways to improve my musical approach as was just getting into playing in bands as lead singer at that time. Can't understand why anyone chose me to sing, never wanted to do it, sounded crap to me, just wanted to play drums at the time, one gig the lead singer had the flu so they told me to sing lead and was only doing harmonies, ended up as the lead singer from that night and most bands played in.

Now I'm probably going to put my foot in it and get it completely wrong, but I think it was something like The Polka Tolka Blues Band .... don't think that was how it was spelt though ..... think it might have been something to do with the area one of them grew up .... might have been Tulsa ..... don't even know if that's an area, a city or a state in the USA ....

Ok. hit me with it .... was I even close :?

I was more confident back then, that someone else would know what I sort of thought I knew ..... but it seems, even though I didn't really know, I at least knew more than anyone else, at least up till now anyway :?

Here's what Wikipedia thinks it was. I can't remember. If it wasn't in Go Set back then, ........ Who remembers 'Go Set' the pop rock weekly rag. Probably just me.

Black Sabbath were a Birmingham England band, not USA.
