Good morning daily

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Good morning.
At the moment I can't hear any wind outside... maybe it's gone, the tree's over the back from me were almost horizontal yesterday.
Carol will be off to bingo today...so I'm free to do... whatever ☺️ I will go into Biggenden to get the quote for the bench top... and maybe get under the motorhome.. possibly 🤔. Other than that.... we'll see...
I got a call from one of the neighbours .. she was selling her car and was a bit concerned... being a widower and never done anything like this before...I went up as a bit of support...it took a bit the buyer got lost and most of the time with no phone service... but finally the car was sold.
That was my sunday Off... bit like most days 😁😜😁
Keep safe.
Bernie.

Good morning everyone. It's 11⁰ here at Mulwala heading for a top of 18. Looks like a copy and paste of yesterday, weather wise.
We took the MiL for a drive over to see her niece and family in the afternoon. Lots of new lambs in the paddocks, enjoying the sunshine. Did not very much else except went walking out by the lake, early on.
Not sure of today's agenda yet.
Safe travels everybody.
Cheers

I was wondering. Should I retorque the head bolts on the Isuzu? The manual said to tighten to x and then turn 90*. Torque to yield I think it's called.

I never re-torqued mine.
I don't agree with that tighten to whatever then tighten 90 degrees... doesn't make sense...a simple tighten to the final torque would make it easier...
I had trouble with the big end's because of everything in the way.... simple if on a bench.... there's another bench I could make 😁
On another note I have been working under the motorhome...I now have all the nut's removed from the sway bar...I needed the rattle gun for the last one...30mm socket...

I think it depends a lot on the type of head gasket. Was it in packet with instructions?
The old copper/asbestos ones did need to be redone from memory but the later type don't seem to require it.
Just as well nowdays on modern engines because it's a major operation just to see the damn engines!!
Hands up anyone who reused (several times?) the old copper head gaskets & gave it a generous coat of silver frost paint?

No retorque with torque to yield head bolts, but they are only 1 time use, they were stretch with that additional 90* turn, stretching them a second time was asking for snapped head bolts and/or gasket failure because the same clamping effort couldn't be maintained as the pre-stretched bolts had lost their ability to stretch a second time after work hardening ....

On the high performance turbo 6 cyls, the head gasket doubled as a decompression plate, often 3mm thick one piece copper. The block had an "O=Ring" grooved cut into it, that was actually a hardened wire, round on the underside and a sharp ridge on the top side. This cut into the copper head gasket and created a "Fire Ring" designed to hold the peak combustion pressure in the cyl.

Every reuse of the copper gasket, it was annealed, dropped in metho, polished with 1000 grit wet and dry and coated in Hylomar to stop water escaping between the block and gasket as well as the head and gasket.

The street performance 4 cyl weren't "O-Ringed" but still annealed and polished, the 333 sealant applied around every hole cut in the copper plate, both sides ..... that was a real pain .....

We used to reuse the old copper head gaskets on the old side valve Ford V8's. You could remove one cylinder head, decoke everything and reassemble. You could even run the engine with one head removed, but not for long. Looked cool though.

Used to watch my dad doing that when I was a young tacker.
Interesting, but not enough to persuade me into a mechanic’s career.
His hands were permanently grease-stained, no matter how much Solvol he used. Grease was gone, but the stain remained.
I liked my hands clean. 😁✍️
